PRP for knee OA?

Anyone try Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy for knee Osteoarthritis? Or, joint fluid replacement? Was diagnosed with fairly extensive knee OA and torn meniscus. Wondering what folks’ experience may have been.

Have not had the procedure, but work with many who do and it has some decent success depending on the extent of damage. Based on your post, the other thing I would look up would be a stem cell transplant - harvested from your bone marrow - the rates of success are: 80% of people get 50% improvement. Which for an injection is a pretty good result!

I am sure there are docs in PDX doing them - OHSU for sure. I don’t have the doc name at home, but if you PM me, I can get it when I go back to work. We have a clinic here in Hood river who is doing them too.

I’m sure they do. Big grants to shoehorn alternative medicine into once respected schools will do that. See: https://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/do-you-believe-in-magic-oregon-does/

Don’t believe the hype. PRP is only “proven” by people who have a financial interest in it…either those who sell it or those who bought it and are riding the placebo effect and looking to justify the expense. Unless something has been published in the last year-ish since I looked this up last, it is at best yet unproven and at worse a scam.

PRP injection will NOT likely help any osteoarthritis or symptoms thereof. It is only used to assist in “healing” a chronic type condition (i.e. tendinosis). Humans can not regenerate articular cartilage (i.e. OA). Best to put your effort/$ elsewhere.

I had two PRP shots (6 weeks apart) administered back in 2011 after not being able to run for 5 months. Was due to same reasons as you stated. Have been running pain free ever since and back to normal mileage. Very happy with treatment and even more so with how little I had to pay compared to surgery.

Like where?
