Protein powder

Folks, I need to get some protein powder (vanilla flavor). What brand do you all use that doesn’t taste like complete crap? I’ve not found a good vanilla powder. Tried to search, didn’t find anything about this specific topic.

Thanks.

Progenex is my favorite vanilla flavor protein drink.

Not a vanilla guy but the chocolate optimum nutrition gold actually tastes like chocolate and not like drinking dirt that some others seem to taste like. its what I’ve been using the past year.

Buy Whey Protein Isolate in bulk and add some cocoa and a little bit of something sweet.

I think most whey protein tastes like crap (even though I still use it because it is so good for recovery) but I found that Hammer Nutrition Soy protein in vanilla tastes FANTASTIC. Just my n=1 but you may try it unless you are specifically looking for whey.

PlantFusion is by far my favourite protein powder. Both the vanilla and the chocolate are tasty and easily digestible. I actually add cocoa powder to both to make a more dark chocolate taste.

I’m not a fan of whey protein isolate. Side effects include increased bowel movements, nausea, thirst, bloating, cramps, reduced appetite, tiredness (fatigue), loss of appetite, and headache. Soy based protein powders are also rather hard on the body.

Go to Sams and get the 5lb bag of whey. I use 2 scoops, add about 3/4 cup of milk, throw in some blueberries, banana, and scoop of peanut butter and blend it. Good stuff.

BiPRO is now available in vanilla and chocolate- it’s the best there is as far as the protein quality (amino acid profile, leucine content) if you want whey.

PlantFusion makes me want to vomit.

What brand do you purchase and is it flavored?

Are you male or female? If male, there’s a fair amount of researching indicating reasons not to be supplementing with soy protein.

You want Dymatize Elite Gourmet Protein. It comes in all kinds of flavors and I gauruntee it is the best tasting you will ever try and never look back. I can mix it with water and drink it no problem. Not chalky tasting and mixes well with everything.

M39. Yeah, I try not to use it very often. Maybe once per week. But, still, it tastes sooo much better. I may need to try some of the other ones folks have suggested in this thread as well.

If you have access to Costco I’d recommend the big 5 or 6lb bag of vanilla protein powder they have there. I think the brand is Cytosport…

Finally a thread I can comment on with some authority

The best I’ve found so far is NOW Foods Whey Isolate. The vanilla flavor is nice and blended with some crushed ice and unsweetened vanilla almond milk it’s like a vanilla milkshake. The cookies and cream flavor is a dream. I pay $65 for 5lbs. You can also buy a 10lb kitty-litter sized bag of unflavored whey isolate from them.

Be weary of whey concentrate. It makes me gassy and I’ve read similar sentiments around the web and heard them from friends in the gym.

My own experience with other brands:

Muscle Milk: tastes pretty good, blends reasonably well, but gosh is that ingredients list long… I also tend to gain weight with Muscle Milk (even the light)
Isopure: tastes very artificial, blends reasonably well.
Myoplex: not a fan of the taste… and if you let it sit in a cup the resulting sludge isn’t pretty. Avoid.
Lean Body: taste is decent, blends well, has whey concentrate though and it makes me gassy. Another long ingredients list.
Jay Robb: taste is somewhat bland and there’s a hint of artificial sweetener. My nutritionist says that it’s the “cleanest” stuff out there short of getting straight non-hydrolized organic whey (which tastes very bitter fyi). Expensive.
Organic Whey: doesn’t blend well and doesn’t taste very good. Very simple ingredients list.
ON Whey: somewhere between Isopure and Lean Body.
GNC House Brand: I don’t have anything nice to say.

In your opinion, Is syntha 6 garbage?

I use EAS vanilla Soy Protein powder. Its not bad. I hate the taste of whey so I went the Soy route.

Male, and I don’t plan to purchase Soy protein b/c of those reasons.

Never tried syntha 6. FWIW, it’s well reviewed on BodyBuilding.com and Amazon.com with a large sample size for both so it probably tastes good.

My own rule of thumb is to keep the ingredients list short. Looking at the ingredients list on Syntha 6 there are some things I like (including sunflower oil and MCTs) and some things I don’t like (lot’s of protein besides whey isolate… that’s fine unless you want whey specifically… the presence of soy, and a lot of ingredients I’m flat out not familiar with).

If you have access to Costco I’d recommend the big 5 or 6lb bag of vanilla protein powder they have there. I think the brand is Cytosport…

Yes, Cytosport = musclemilk, if I’m not mistaken. At Costco, and I think Sam’s as well (Sams = closer). This raises a second question. I think MM has LOADS of ingredients, as referenced in a post already. Maybe too many ingredients. So, that’s just not at the top of the list.

I will try the Dynamize though.

Syntha-6…I think their C-PB powder is delicious.
