I don’t think I’ve ever had goggles that don’t fog up, liquid soap always sorted them out, but I’ve now started using the Arena Cobra Ultra Swipes. I’ve been racing in the normal Cobras for a few years, great for training, OWS, racing etc but now they’ve added proper anti-fog protection as opposed to “anti-fog” protection. They say if they do fog up, wiping with your fingers sorts it out, but mine never have, 6 months on. But they’re not cheap… I can get 40% discount and they still come in at AUS $60… Most of the top swimmers are using these or the Speedo Fastskin.
Marketing blurb below.
“Discover the the most advanced anti-fog protection ever! arena’s new Anti-Fog Swipe Technology is a groundbreaking new approach to solving the problem of goggles that fog up.
The Cobra family’s existing antifog treatment is already one of the best. Now with Swipe technology, arena made it even better! With just a single swipe of the finger, Swipe Anti-Fog can be reactivated, extending the protection up to 10 times longer!
When goggles become foggy, gently swipe the inner lenses with your fingertip while the goggles are in the water and enjoy clear vision for longer. Available with clear (suitable for indoor use) or dark lenses (suitable for outdoor use)”
I have a pair of the triathlon ones and they are awesome. I’m also a HS swim coach and have had many swimmers have the swim versions. They are as advertised.
Thanks for the rec, just ordered will try them out. I’ve been using baby shampoo diluted, but even that tends to fog a little when I’m going hard for over an hour, and since I’m swimming more, I figure it would be good to try these.
I tried baby shampoo with cobra ultras and they are worst fogging goggles I’ve ever had. Baby shampoo stops fogging in them for about 400m at most. Speedo opals with baby shampoo are the best as far as fogging goes imo.
Ever tried just putting a very small amount of pool water in each goggle??? Not enough to irritate your eyes when swimming backstroke but just enough to swish around every minute or two. I swear to God that this works b/c I’ve been doing this for around 20 yrs or so. The secret is to get just the right amount but it’s not too hard once you do it a few times. I swear it works for me in my 15-yr old pair of Swedes.
yep 100%
another one - I also squeeze my eyes shut as hard as I can and open them as wide as I can pushing off walls when moving fastest and that lets a tiny bit in too. Just dislodges the gogglies slightly. Works for me

Very cool!!! I’ve posted this about 4-5 times before and you are the very first person to say they do this also. I’ll have to try the shutting/opening trick during my swim tomorrow. Thanks for the tip. JOOC, do you wear Swedes???
I did for the past couple of years, and then last year during a 10km race I had the goggle press up on a nerve with about 1.5km to go. Didn’t notice it then but driving home from race my scalp and right side of forehead didn’t have any feeling in it. Have been wearing goggles that my father-in-law got from lost and found since then (big soft rimmed / about as non-swimmer a goggles as you can get). One of my swimming friends has said to me ‘no…just no…’ when she sees them

Wow, that’s weird!!! How long to get the feeling back??? I’d bet this incident was stress related as you were putting your body under fairly extreme stress for over 2 hrs. If you swam 10,000 m under 2 hrs, then it was really under stress!!!
Yep was under a high amount of stress for sure!! Likely a combo of factors
I’d say within 2 weeks a fair bit had come back, 4 weeks more, and then by around 2-3 months after most was back. The right side of my scalp still has a slightly different sensation to the other side, so I suspect its not fully healed. Bit odd. It was a strange feeling - it was like a jolt / electric shock type feel to my forehead when it happened but only for a very brief instant.

Well, that is quite a story, glad you have most of your feeling back. I guess I might opt for super comfy goggles too if that had happened to me. :):)

That’s weird, I kind of had a similar thing. Did a 20km open water race this year and a few days after noticed right side of scalp, forehead and near my right eye were all numb. Stayed like that for a few weeks, I thought I was having a stroke or something. Might have been the goggles, maybe too tight?
May have been the same thing. Some stuff on google about swimmers headache and pressure on the nerves. Can’t imagine backing up for another 10k and doing a 20km. Nice one
I hear Swedes don’t fog at all.
I’ve worn Swedish goggles since high school swimming 25 years ago. The original ones fogged a lot. The ones I wear now come with an anti-fog treatment that works well for about a month. Then they fog like the old ones. SwimSpit works pretty well with them, though.

A small amount of pool water is all you need!!! See posts 5 thru 8 above.

+1 … I wore them for the first time out of the box in an IM swim and no fogging whatsoever - usually am blind after about 1500m.
