ProMotion Wetsuits - Anyone have one?

I was wondering if anyone has a ProMotion wetsuit that they could provide some feedback on? How does it compare to other suits, etc. Thanks in advance.

I’ve been swimming in a Fluid drive long john for 4 or 5 years. I’ve been pretty happy with it. It is certainly durable, and I’m faster in it. I can’t say that it is as flexible or as fast as the $600 deals that are out there, but I’m a pretty good swimmer to begin with, so I don’t notice much, and I think I got mine on sale for like $130 new.

I’m actually curious about how it compares to soem of the newer suits as well, but for the money, it’s a pretty good suit.

…have a sleeveless thats probably 6 or 7 years old now – really only use it once or twice a year out here in AZ - but have really enjoyed it - and at my spped…or lack thereof…no need for a super expensive suit.

well worth it.

I had one for over ten years, it finally tore at the bottom of the zipper. It was fine, comfortable, no issues at all. Also I’m not any faster in the new Xterra Vortex… I’d say the ProMotion are as fast as any of the basic tri wetsuits and mine was certainly durable.

Durable, great value, works just fine. And WONDERFUL customer service.

Lots of my friends have and like them.

I started off with a full-sleeve ProMotion suit about 5 years ago and swam in it for 2 years, with my coldest swims being at IM Lake Placid. They are very durable and a great deal. Perfect if this is your first wetsuit. Eventually I moved to a full-sleeve 2XU and like it much more. It has thinner material and is more flexible, which was important to me. But, it does cost alot more. I am now envious of my wife’s sleeveless Blue Seventy. It is very thin and flexible and she loves it.

I have one and really like it, but frankly I don’t have a lot of other suits to compare it to. I can tell you that customer service is top notch. I broke a zipper last year (completely my fault) and they fixed it quickly. A lot of other suits aren’t made in the US and you’ll have a hard time finding someone to fix them. I tried locally here on the east coast and couldn’t. Then I mailed it to ProMotion. Should have done that in the first place.

I had the top end long sleeve Orca and decided to switch to ProMotion for a shortsleeve. I now have three ProMotion suits and love every one of them. The company itself is amazing. They have incredible customer service. I defiantly recommend using any of their suits.

I have a full suit that I’ve been using for 5 or 6 years. It was their top end model then, whatever it was called. As mentioned, good suit, good customer service, etc.

Only gripe I had was I put fingernail holes in the legs the very first time I tried it on (Xmas morning in my living room, trying on carefully and correctly). I was majorly bummed as it was the first tri new item of any value I had ever owned, and it was now damaged before its first use.

I have heard they use a better rubber or coating or something now. If so, I would recco getting that and not the older models.

I have a ProMotion. I love it for cold water swims as it has thicker rubber and floats better. I was able to talk to a rep before purchase.

great wetsuit at the best value in the industry IMO. Have one that I bought for $200 in 2001 and it’s still great. I was also impressed with their customer service when I had questions prior to purchasing.

This isn’t a negative on ProMotion, but on buying a wetsuit without trying it out beforehand. I’m just not sure that even the best telephone customer service agents in the world can help size a wetsuit.

I bought one in 2004 and their customer service people walked me through the fit when I ordered it. When it arrived, I noticed that it was pretty loose in the chest. I called them again and theyasked me a lot of questions about the fit. Together, we decided that the fit was good. I might have been influenced by the hassle and wait time associated with sending it back and I do share the blame. Also, I bought it in my second year racing triathlon and it was my first wetsuit so I didn’t have much experience. It seems that it was always holding a lot of water when I finished in the water.

So, I still had second thoughts about the sizing a few years later and tried a deSoto T1 rental suit. It was a world of difference and I bought the deSoto the next day. To be fair, I bought different sizes in the top/bottom of the T1 so I might be considered tough to fit. However, I have tried to sell the ProMotion suit and it’s huge on everyone so it’s also possible their women’s sizing is off.

I still have 2 of their suits and highly recommend them. I have used other brands and still really like the Promotion brand the best. For some of us trying on before purchasing is not really an option because of location of stores or lack of. I could not decide which size to purchase as I was right in between sizes and it was my first suit so I had nothing to compare it too. I purchased 2 sizes decided which one I wanted to keep and sent the other one back. The $6 in shipping I am sure was cheaper than driving to a store 100 miles away. I have had the first one for over 6 years now and no complaints or problems. It is a sleeveless suit and some other brands might be more flexible in a fullsuit but for a sleeveless I have been very happy.
