Profile aerodrink sponge solution, with pics!

I know my basement is an absolute disaster, so please don’t go there!

I also know my bike has dried up accelerade on it, but I fractured my arm two days after Timberman and I can’t clean it.

Here is the solution I came up with a while ago to the stupid yellow sponge. All you’ll need is a bunch of tie wraps, some extra bar tape or electric tape and a mayonnaise jar lid (not that I eat that junk). I added an extension to the straw as you can see so I don’t have to bend way over to drink. Filling up on the fly is really easy, just flip the lid a bit forward. This doesn’t splash, so your precious fuel stays where it needs to be. The dried accelerade on the mount is from spilling a bit when refilling.

I don’t know how I manage. I just stick the aerobottle between the aerobar extensions. I stick a sponge in the top. Everything sits there just fine with no attachments, tops, rubberbands or zip ties.

Never had a problem. What am I missing?

You are missing the refreshing splash of sports drink in your face every time you roll over an uneven surface. 112 miles on sticky pads and tape is a lot of fun too.

Gee, somehow the sponge manages to stop that. I don’t use the yellow nylon thingie that came with it. I just use the sponge the vendor provides with the Jetstream aerobottle.

Five IMs and counting, no problems.

I am definitely missing something. Not the first time.

I envy you and your magic sponge.

My solution is way ghetto, but I use clear duct tape over the top (and keep the silly yellow mesh thing in there too, it does help reduce sloshing a bit).

No water splashes out, and you peel it up partway to refill, stick it back down to close again.

Lasts as long as I’m willing to let the bottle go between cleanings (a pretty long time, actually - I only use water in it), and then I just do it again after the washing the bottle.

<< I envy you and your magic sponge. >>

I guess the rest of us are just not “sponge-worthy”

If you checked my bike splits, your envy would stop in its tracks.

Is that a red zip tie you have that straps the bottle across the front? What do you use to secure it if not velcro?

My velco is a joke and a zip tie may work well. Just have to cut and replace I guess when you want to remove the bottle and zip ties are cheap. Or maybe let it hang with the zip tie in front, just loose enough to take the bottle in and out, but may rattle…

Why does your Kaliber have bar tape on the TT?

How do you like those Easton bars?

Yeah it’s a zip tie, I use them everywhere. They are cheap and easy enough to replace.

I like the easton bars a lot, it’s a little tough getting the carbon stryke bars wide enough apart though and I don’t like the non adjustability of the easton aero bars.

There is bar tape on the top tube to protect the tube from the multi tool in my bento box which sits right on top of it.

You mechanical engineers crack me up.

I go with a simple shower spongie as was mentioned earlier.

Dude, that straw is crazy long. I had to cut mine back so I didnt poke my eye out. My mom was always warning me about that! I use the zip ties to hold my aerobottle on also. I never wash it because I only use water and the black stuff at the bottom of the bottle adds some taste
