Looking for this service, any suggestions? Thanks
I just got fit with Stefan Rothe out of Austin this afternoon. I immediately noticed a difference on my time trial and road bike positions. He worked diligently to identify the few issues that I had and came up with good inexpensive solutions. He works out of Austin Tri-cyclist and I was very impressed.
Consensus on Twitter is:
ATC
David Wenger at Durata - http://duratatraining.com/
John Cobb - would get my vote - if you want to drive over to Tyler.
Skot Campbell at BSS is a BG master fitter
Dave Wenger- Retul
Have a chat with both, they are both excellent
.
It appears the ATC fit is not computerized since the two others listed have fees more than double Stefans. Is that the case?
Correct, Stefan’s fit is not computerized. Instead it relies on his interpretation of visual and measured queues.
I started a reply, but never finished.
Stefan does not use Retul or other motion capture. Neither do Don or Adam (at ATC) when they fit.
David uses Retul when he fits. Kevin at Jack and Adams (not Kevin at Mellow Johnny’s though he does to) uses Retul.
It has been said here that a bad bike fit is a bad bike fit whether they use a ‘computerized’ system or not. That is not a reflection on anyone of the fitters above.
It’s a bit of a generalization, but of the folks mentioned on this thread, David/ATC/Stefan probably have the ‘most’ experience with tri fits.
Added…except for John if you go to Tyler.
Brant or Kevin at PedalHard in the basement of Mellow Johnny’s. Probably the most expensive (that I know of) in Austin, but they use the Retul system.
Brant is TX state TT champion and was 3rd in the Elite Nationals TT, so in terms of time trial/tri bike fit he knows what he’s talking about. In one fit I went from hardly ever sitting in my aerobars to spending (almost) the entire 56 miles of a half-iron in the bars. They also try to work on your pedaling technique to make you more efficient in general also.
Rick at Tri-Sition area is a good fitter & is Retul certified. Matt @ Bicycle Heaven is a great fitter, as well, based on older tools. Not sure if he has headed or will be heading the computerized route. Both shops are in San Antonio.
I got fit by Rick at Tri-Sition area this year and he did a great job. He is Retul certified and helped fix some of my back issues on the bike. The people at Tri-Sition area are super nice as well. Their pricing on service and fits are very reasonable too.
I will second (or third in Rick’s case) the recommendations made about Matt at Bicycle Heaven and Rick at Tri-Sition area. Matt is old school and Rick has the modern tools like Retul, but either can give a great fit. (This assumes you take their advice, of course. Some folks pay to get professional opions but still do what they want and not what was recommended to them).

Last I chatted with him, Matt had indicated he was headed the computer route, especially with Bicycle Heaven being a Specialized dealer and Specialized’s recent acquisition of specialized computer-based fit utilities.

I would throw in a vote for Kevin @ Jack and Adams. I will openly admit bias because I worked at the shop for 3 years. That said… we both hate each other, but he’s good at his job.

And it’s worth the drive for a full fit. Matt & Rick have done tweaks for me since my last major overhaul.
Frank at Soler’s in San Antonio did my fit. He was very knowledgeable and professional. Great guy to work with!
Rick at Tri Sition did my daughters fit. He did a great job as well.
