Products, sodium and endurance training input

I was wondering what people suggested in terms of products that have a high enough sodium content that one would not have to take salt tablets in addition for long endurance training and racing.

I have had trouble with digestion of salt tablets and was wondering what people have used out there for racing and training to assist with heat and the need for increased sodium especially during longer endurance sessions.

I have experience with a few products but wanted to see what input was from other athletes?

Cheers and thanks for the opinions and input.

I add Base Salts (baseperformance.com) to all my drinks when warm out of course. When in 90’s its a salty drink but no GI issues or cramping! Problem I have with all the pills is some of that extra stuff like B vits bother my stomach and I hate taking pills during a race… I like simple!

You can try Gatorade Endurance.

Otherwise you can try Endurolytes from Hammer Nutrition in powder form and add it to whatever sports drink you prefer,

(becky - i’m not at all trying to imply you have an excess of sodium in your diet)

and i’m kind of hijacking the thread…but I’ve been curious lately…

Why is the solution always to take in more sodium during the race? Why not try to focus on eating a lower sodium diet instead? To the nutritionists, in the long run isn’t this a better solution, so come race day it will be less of a concern?

Help me understand…

S!Caps. I usually only take 1 per hour, 2 if really really (over 90*) hot. Endurolytes I’d have to take 4 - 6 in order to feel good in those same temps. Because of that they are less expensive. $10.50 for 100 S!Caps, meaning up to 100 runs depending on weather, vs. $20 for 120 Endurolytes, meaning 30 or fewer runs depending on weather.

And, my stomach isn’t bothered because I’m cramming fewer pills in it. I’m glad I made the switch.

Gatorade Endurace just doesn’t have enough electrolytes in it for me.
