I just bought a pair of Aquasphere Kayenne goggles and wanted to see if anyone was having some issues with them. When I tried them at the store, they seemed to fit perfectly and I was able to see great. Once I was in the pool for the first time with them this Monday that was not the case. First, I had to tighten the straps until I was unable to think which made them pretty uncomfortable but I think I just need to adjust them after a few swims. The other issue that I had, is the one that bothers me the most. Are any of you experiencing double vision or seeing really blurry with them? How did you fix it?
I haven’t noticed those problems specifically, but when I wore them I noticed that the gasket would pull away from the lens pretty quickly and they would leak.
I wanted to love those goggles. Really like them, they fit great when not too tight, I could see great, etc. But they leaked like crazy unless I really, really tightened them down. So much it hurt my head. The other option was draining/adjusting them every 250 yards or so.
Switched to socket rockets, which were great for pool swims, but I was doomed in open water with them.
Just got a pair of tyr spec ops and so far, they fit my head far better, but to each their own.
Is this your first Kayenne pair? I know there’s a ‘small face’ and ‘regular face’ fit. Once upon a time I tried the ‘small face’ fit and didn’t like it at all (similar symptoms like you). ‘Regular fit’ didn’t show any of that. Agree with the gasket and leaking after say a month of regular 2-3-times-a-week use. Hope it helps
I’ve been using the Kayenne goggles for 3 yrs now and love them. They don’t leak and I don’t keep them very tight, love the click adjustments for the straps and I can see really well with them on. Prior to that, I tried a ton of different goggles and they always leaked.
I don’t swim a lot(3-4times per week) and I can go about a year before they start leaking/fogging up and need to be replaced.
For the Kayennes, we do have 2 different fits. As much as I’d love to say that we have the one and only goggle that fits every single person in the world, that’s just not possible.
That said, a few things could be causing the leaking. First being pulling the straps too tight. You’ll want to have the straps just comfortably snug. If you pull the straps too tight it flattens the gasket and does not allow for proper sealing.
You can also adjust the orientation of the strap. A higher angle is going to work better when it comes to pulling even pressure along the entire gasket of the goggle. A horizontal positioning of the strap may not pull the bottom section of the goggle tight enough to give a proper seal.
The next issue that you are experiencing could be an issue of sizing. Or it could be the curvature of the lens. There are a very small percentage of people that experience an issue with the curve of the lens in a pool. But when in open water they work just fine. The issue generally has to do with the eye focusing on objects that are a lot closer to you through the curve which for some causes some blurriness. As mentioned below, a different size (Small Fit or Regular Fit) could solve this issue, or perhaps even a different model.
Again, some goggles just don’t work for some people. This is being realistic.
As for the posts regarding durability, the Kayenne goggles last me at a minimum 6 months with swimming at least 5 times a week in a pool and in open water. I consider that a very decent lifespan for a pair of goggles that sees a lot of time in the water. I could wear these longer, but I find that to be a good time to refresh.
I attribute this longer lifespan to the care of the goggle. Fresh water rinsing after every swim and keeping them in a case will help prolong the life of the goggle.
I love those goggles, and you got most the advice you need. I will only add that perhaps you have them off center? WHat i mean by that is when you tighten them up, was it done equally to each side so as not to pull them one direction? I do this accidentally and they begin to leak right away, but center them and no issues at all…
I wear (and swim with) contacts. Most goggles I can see clearly above and under water. With others (like my Kayennes), it’s clear above water, but blurry under water. If I take my contacts out with the Kayennes, I see clearly underwater, but can’t see for sh!t above water.
I had double vision so bad with the Kayenne’s that it made me almost nauseous. It was unfortunate, too, because they fit my head perfectly, and didn’t leak, but I was so disoriented after a few laps in the pool that I just gave up. I haven’t tried them in open water- maybe they’ll work better for me there!

As Jake mentioned, there is no need to cinch these down tight. They should have just enough pressure to create some suction. As for lens issues, I have swam in a lot of goggles and I find that the different curvature of various lenses and the material, shape, size etc all cause the view to be different. My eyes always adjust to the particular vision field within a swim or so, but at it first it can always seem awkward. I’m a huge fan of these goggles and actually are one of the only goggles that really work well with the Finis Swimp3 player. Although I use them in the pool, they really excel in open water.
I have them and love them. My wife wanted to use them as well, but can’t wear the lower profile style goggles. As was mentioned, I make sure the strap is up fairly high on my head and that seems to make a better seal for me.
I swim only about twice a week and my pair is over 2 years old. I have clear for the pool and tinted for outside.
i love AS goggles but the kayenne didnt really work for my face. did have that blurry vision that that you mentioned as well as leaking. i switched to the k180s. these are awesome as they come with 3 different nose pieces. now i dont have any issues. theyre great for both the pool and open water.

This has been my key to the Kayenne. At the expo, it fit perfectly - in the pool and a few test-races, it leaked. I kept trying, and every once in a while I seemed to have donned it correctly, and was rewarded with a great goggle. I wanted to make it work.
A week before my goal 70.3, I finally figured it out: On my head, the goggle itself should be worn level, while the strap goes up at an angle. Like Swedish goggles, it helps to open the eyes before attaching the lens to the face. Worked perfectly in the race.
I have both the Kayenne and the Kaiman. I mostly end up gravitating to the Kaiman. They just seem to fit better and have less distortion. Maybe the smaller frame size doesn’t twist as much? I really have no idea, but I like them better.
I’ve been wearing Aqua Sphere Kaymens for almost 10 years with no problems…I even have some that are several years old (shows how often I swim anymore) and they still don’t leak.
