Several years ago i bought a yakima forklift roof rack. No problems. Over the winter, I left the rack on for two days without the bike. The skewer fell apart and the locking mechanism/hinge fell off. No way to secure bike to rack.
Called yakima, and they said that has been a problem. They sent me a new skewer, but its not the same and has an actual key lock.
Tried to use it and it appears the actual skewer is a little thicker than what i had on the old skewer. I have to give it a pretty hard push to fit it thru. It seems to fit but its work to get it in, where the old one fit properly and I did not have to force it.
I am not sure whether to use it on a 4 hour drive that i am leaving for in 1 hour. Thoughts.
If you have pushed the skewer through the rack then I would be fine using it. It’s made of metal, it’s not going to break by pushing it through the roof rack. Probably explains why the new skewer is designed better than the old one.
It seems to work. It unplugged the exit point for the skewer on the opposite side but that plugged back in.
yakima has one of the best customer service in the biz.
