My bike came with Sprint 350’s. I’d had no problems in the first 1600 miles, but recently the rear has begun to click at low speed and rattles at higher speeds on rough roads. Anyone have a similar experience? Haven’t had a chance to take it in yet.
I had a pair of CR-420’s a few years back that served me very well with zero issues.
Call American Classic at 800-813-5545 I have no doubt that you will be well taken care of.
Those CR420s are still working fine under me Speedy. AM Classic is very good about customer service and I agree that calling them is your best option.
If the hubs can support Kent’s current weight & powerful riding, they must be good
.
I contacted them and they referred me to a shop. I was just wondering if this was a one time thing or if others had a similar experience.
My 350s (two or three years old) are holding up fine, although I don’t use the rear very often.
Has the freehub/cassette “slipped” yet?
My 350 rear had an excessive oscillation that causes very rough rear changes but once I contacted them I received a new (centred) freehub body and the recalled clutch plate FOC and have had no problems but immense enjoyment from them. Great wheels and great service.
Has the freehub/cassette “slipped” yet?
No, the cassette and shifting seem fine. It just goes ‘click…click…click’ once per revolution at under 20 mph. AT over 25 on rough roads it rattles.
I got the clutch replacement and had it installed last summer. The shop that did that checked the hub,but didn’t opoen it up, since they don’t have parts for the hub itself.
Damn, we never had those issues. Glad to hear that you had the cam thing replaced. Spoke tension?
Had that checked and their was a slight out of true, but that didn’t cure it. I’ll post when I get it back from the other shop.
There was a recall on a batch of AC hubs (freehub clutch mechanisim I believe…)…
That was the part I had replaced last summer. That doesn’t seem to be the problem.
Am Classic recommended shop near by. The wrench found that the axle was a little loose, as was the cassette. A few adjustments and it’s fine. I rode it in the mountains last weekend twice and no problem.
Top 3 issues with AC wheels:
-
not using the spacer provided with Shimano 10 speed cassettes.
-
cam plate engagement; some hubs last year require a replacement cam plate that will solve it.
-
play between freehub and cassette on Shimano 10 speed; corrected by way of a fit kit, available from AC.
Honorable mention goes to shops that try to eke out every last bit of side-play in tightening the rear hub, which pre-loads and prematurely wears the bearings. If you can’t feel the hub slide at all on the axle, get some slack Jack.
Thanks! I’ll check that.
