Your sandbox my posts on doping had nothing to do with IS case. Has everything to do with the reality of the sport with how likely it easy it is to break rules and not get caught in all kinds of ways (doping, illegal shoes, drafting).
And since PTN mentioned their thoughts on it, I just thought it was a weird stance. People have no clue the behind scenes behaviors that may or may go on with others. So because we are friends with them or like them means very little with then knowing someone is clean. And again your clean until your sanctioned so by default we are a “clean” sport with how little we have doping busts,
To the contrary: the Code is pretty explicit that ADRVs are pretty much strict liability. Either you had the item in your system or you didn’t. The burden of proof is on the athlete to prove why they deserve a finding of no fault / negligence, or for a reduced sanction.
The extent of burden of proof on the testing authority is to prove that they followed appropriate procedure and the results of said testing are violations of the Code.
But, as mentioned to Brooks, fruit of a poisonous tree; you’d replied to someone else who’s post was pulled and it tends to rip the whole threaded discussion out when cleaning some stuff up.
I fear that boat has sailed. Both on the latest PTN ( @talbotcox offering a mea culpa) and with @JackKelly-TTH on TTH yesterday forswearing antagonist banter, looks as if (sensible chaps) they’re both going to focus on triathlon rather than another party’s behaviour and ‘previous’.
Have to think a colab between them in future is as about as likely as Knibb and Charles-Barclay cooperating on the bike in Kona next year. Loevseth/Philipp/Matthews on the other hand . . .
Is that what his apology was about on this weeks episode? He didn’t really provide any context. as a repeat offender of saying dumb stuff, it wasn’t clear what he was talking about.
I wondered that too. Not being on social media all that much, I didn’t really know what he was apologizing for or if he was apologizing to anyone in particular or more to the audience as a whole.
I’m confused. Mark says they’re podcast bros and not journalists. That’s covered in the warning every episode. But then Talbot toots PTN’s own horn on journalistic standards. Didn’t he once remarked in an old episode about seeing a former world champion disposing some doping paraphernalia in a bin?
Think you have to look at this in sequence @runningeconomy . The @talbotcox gobbing off on insta (?Wednesday) preceded his mea culpa and Matthews M’s “we are not journos” bit (Sunday pm).
we should have the jack Kelly Talbot cox journalist of the year award on ST .
and the award to be handed over by Imogen Simmonds. award a 1 year gym membership at her ex boyfriends gym.
That’s the thing. This flippant behaviour from both Jack and Talbot is just too tiring and has been an unnecessary distraction for small group of people like us who follow this niche sport. Leading up to Nice, there’s been some potshots from PTN to TTH making Jack’s appearance in the live show a story in itself instead of focusing the men’s race. Before Kona, Jack had a meltdown on IG about PTN doing daily episodes or even saying out of nowhere that Mark Matthews had the most to lose from the race. Now we’ve circled back to how this supposed beef started with the Imogen Simmonds case. Here’s to hoping that both parties would try justing being flies in the wall for the Marbella coverage for a change.
the fundamental issue is that BS like artificial beef between podcasters gets clicks. While quality work more often than not gets ignored. And at the end of the day it’s about clicks.
And more clicks is more influence and we have decided that those days it’s less about quality but quantity ( clicks )
On that note I did like the last PTN podcast as there was some reflection.
At the end of the day , I think we need to make all the positive cases public, it’s important to show that people get caught .
And now case closed.
Classic example of that is right here on Slowtwitch
Kevin Mackinnon was one of premier Tri journo’s when Jesus was an age grouper and he is still going strong. You dont have to be “edgy” to produce excellent work.
There was talk about Lionel and red s for months and then some pods about Kristen to lean and going to blow up in nice etc.
so why post kona none of these pods brought up LCB being cut and blowing up is this to avoid gender kick back or do we treat women differently then we do men.
If Kristen did at nice what happened to LCB or Knibb we would be still talking about heading into 70.3 worlds .
