I am wondering if the tires I see for sale are “preproduction” tires or tires that are intended for end users? By preproduction I refer to a run that is used to dial-in the manufacturing process and ensure that the tire meet set specifications. I am eager to get a pair of PR3’s but I want the version that is released to full production, not a “prototype”.

??? end users buying from a bike shop don’t prototype tires …
Been using PR3s for a while now. Love 'em. Better than the PR2’s immediately (easier to mount and slightly narrower at 22.5mm vs almost 24mm for my PR2 (at least 5 sets over the years). Supposed better puncture resistance. Ride nice and seem to handle better to me (after a road race “test” that is).
I just think that it is strange that there is no info on the Michelin website but the yet the tire apparently is in production. I am sure they want to sell as many of their new tire as possible so why don’t they advertise that it is available? Oh well, I will give them a call on Monday…
I am talking about a preproduction run versus a regular (full) production. Working in RD/Manufacturing I tend to think about these things before I buy newly released products. There is usually a lot of tweaking going on during the startup of a new product.
I went in to a shop in Mesa the other day looking for some PR2s. They said that they weren’t sure they could still get them since the PR3s are out. So I had hi order me some PR3s. Apparently only available in grey at the moment.

I picked up two sets from probikekit.com and used them today for the first time. They are production models and, I gotta tell ya, they are all that and a bag of chips. Faster then the PR2’s, better cornering, and jsut about everything else. One ride and I am sold.
