How do pro’s enter Ironman races? Is it any different than the AG process? When a race is “sold out” are there still pro slots open? Thanks for the help. I am not finding the Ironman website helpful.
if you have a pro card, you email the athelte liaision person of the race and enter the race. You still have to pay for your entry unless you qualified for comp entry(criteria)
i believe you can enter up to 2 weeks prior to the race.
what is the criteria for a “comp” entry?
It’s at the discretion of IMNA (or the RD for ones abroad). There is no formula or criteria.
Jonnyo is right (at least according to USAT/ITU pro-card holders who are friends of mine). Their is no “discretion” but simply 2 week informal deadline prior to the race along with pro status.
I was referring to the criteria (or lack thereof) for **comped **entry, not simply entering the race.
“comp” entry is at the discretion of the race organizers. Higher profile athletes do get comp’ed at some races and at some races they have to pay- Rumor was that some athletes had to pay for their entry for a race like the NYC Triathlon and some others did not. Same with some 70.3 and ironman races. In my experience, the athletes that I work with do not pay entries really. The only race that any of my athletes who race pro had to pay entry was for Eagleman 70.3 and that was Ragnar. It was his first pro race and we paid entry for him., but that was the only race we had to pay an entry for him for the entire year once he turned pro.
And is thepro card for Ironman the same pro card that Triathlon Canada issues for internatinoal competition?!?
