Has Princeton never released any kind of aero data for their wheels? I’d love to see some real testing of their trispoke. Scouring the internet, I still can’t find anything.
I’ve emailed them in the past asking, but never get a reply…
I emailed them and asked once. They did reply to say they didn’t have any data they could share but that Ineos could use any wheels they wanted and they use the trispoke. My research on this topic has generally concluded that the performance differences amongst top wheels is vanishingly small.
I’d be curious in hearing anecdotal evidence of their tri-spoke compared to a traditional 60-80mm deep front wheel, especially in cross winds. Seems like they trot out the “Ineos picked us” line when asked for evidence.
We just need to get a tri spoke into the hands of @desert_dude so he can test it the next time he goes to the tunnel.
I want it to test slightly faster or handle better in cross winds just so I can justify getting a tri-spoke, because I think they look so cool.
I borrowed a friend’s Princeton disc + tri spoke for Oceanside 70.3. We had wind, hills, etc . . . I was uniformly impressed! I had the fastest bike split in my age group by 5 minutes!! Many thanks to me personal aero advisor @desert_dude Next time he is around I may test them.
Unless you were previously using mountain bike wheels there is no way the PCW wheels saved 5 mins…
For that matter i’d bet good money the difference between PCW and a cheap set of Chinese wheels is 2/5ths of eff all…
Never said they saved 5 minutes The only thing I said about speed was “uniformly impressed.” What are we betting on??
PCW has done a fabulous job scrubbing their aero testing data from the interwebs.
When I was over in Australia doing some bike fitting and testing we had a trispoke, open mold revlover not a PCW, and a 40 or 50mm deep wheel with the same tire. I tested them both on several people
The trispoke was faster for the majority but not all the people.
Makes me think there is variability in the way the wheel/tire/bike/rider interact and the fastest front wheel in testing may not be your fastest front wheel
What are you doing early June? May be coming to HP to see Dad.
Wide front fork vs. skinny fork? Supposedly that makes a difference?
He said he had the fastest bike split in his AG by five minutes. No reference (or even an inference) that it saved anything.
Early June? Alcatraz!! Let me know your dates when confirmed.
Sure… But definitely gives the impression. It’s like me saying I took creatine before my last marathon and ran a 20 Min PB!!!..of course no inference that it made me run faster
Uniformly impressed compared to what? What power and speed on the PCW compared to the ‘other’ wheels?
I think that is where I am at too…
The trispoke is damn sexy.
Agreed they are sexy. I “think” they are harder to handle in a crosswind? I will be testing a set of 6560 Wake wheels vs HED Vanquish 6 in the next week or two to see if there is any meaningful difference.
I’m a heavyweight at 180, have ridden disc with 90mm front in strong winds, my fat……er….muscle……keeps me planted….
Ha. I’m a heavyweight 142lbs at 5’10" so I get blown around quite a bit.
