Hey all bellow are the price list from competitive cyclist of the groupsets:
Do you think the upgraded groupsets are worth it. Mostly is the 7900 worth the extra over the 7800
Select Component Package Base Price Super Record 11 $3270 Record 11 $2800 Record 10 $1794 Chorus 11 $2314 Dura Ace 7900 $2600 Dura Ace 7800 $1005 Ultegra SL 6600 $1118 Red $2039 Force $1233 Rival $892
I haven’t even ridden 7900 and would say that’s a definite no. DA 7800 is a super nice setup, is lightweight and shifts great. For a grand it’s a screamin’ deal.
Dura Ace 7800 for less than the price of Ultegra SL? There isn’t much to think about on that one. Personally, I would prefer the Campy Record 10, but couldn’t justify the extra $800 and would end up on the Shimano.
One final note on compatibility: Shimano states that the Dura Ace ST-7900 STI levers are compatible with both the Dura Ace RD-7900 and RD-7800 rear derailleurs. The Dura Ace ST-7900 is also compatible with both the Dura Ace BR-7900 and BR-7800 brake calipers. However, it is only compatible with the Dura Ace FD-7900 front derailleur, and not with the FD-7800 front derailleur.

da 7800 is on close-out. those prices won’t last for long.
if i were you, i’d go with 7800 instead of 7900. it’s simply not worth spending the extra $1600.

Interesting Shimano lists No on the 7900 STI and 7800 rear der on the compatibility chart. Also FYI while the 7900 levers will work with the 7800 brakes, they feel like crap.
I agree. At half the price, old DA over red is a no-brainer. I bought a new bike with red over the summer before the 7900 stuff came out and the 7800 prices dropped.
As much as I love red, the extra grand would have been hard to justify.
I imagine at these prices the old DA is going be sold out quickly.
Too bad they don’t have Centaur. That’s where the value is. (Ooooh … The pre-carbon ergoshifters … Should have salvaged them before I sold my old bike.)

And someone just PM’d me seemingly shocked and disappointed that PC’s were $900. LOL.

Hey, thanks for copying the post (keeping my thoughts on the first
page longer) and for helping me keep the PC’s price in perspective.
And, of course, for the opportunity to respond. What would PC’s do without you guys? Every little bit helps you know. You guys are great, thanks again.
D/A 7800 at $1005 is outstanding. Given that D/A 7700 is still available 5 years after 7800 came out, and that you can use Ult 6600 cassette, chains, and cups, that seems like a very good choice.
But, I bought a full Red gruppo for $1250 in October. So, you gotta shop around…
