I bought this used and never had any problems running for up to 2 hours at a time.
A friend of mine who is quite heavyer(220lbs?) ran some intervals last week and during sprints the treadmill would turn off after a random while. The power switch actually moved to the off position(some kind of nuilt-in breaker?).
Is this normal/expected for a high end treadmill? It’s like what they have in the gyms even if this is just a 120v model.
The friction between the deck and tread is getting too high, and as a result the built in breaker is tripping. You need to get some service, and treat the deck with Sylicone spray, or if the deck is too warn, like mine was and the treatment didn’t make enough difference, then you need a new tread, and to flip the deck. As long as the deck has not already been flipped. If it has you need a new deck, and new tread. Either that, or just don’t let your friend use your treadmill!
Similar thing happened to me a few times. In my building the gym treadmills were Precor and if I got on them right after someone got off, every once in a while one would shut off after maybe an hour or so. I just figured it was overheating and would switch to another treadmill. I’m not as big as your friend (170), but it would make sense that more weight would cause the problem more often.
I do remember years back when I went to a gym, entire banks of treadmills would cut off if everyone was running. Like 4 of us would have the treadmills shut down at once. I guess we were tripping the main breaker.
I do not think you are supposed to put anything on the deck of a Precor as that may gum it up, but it probably depends on the model. I would suggest calling the precor support line. My local service/dealer wanted to charge me about $150 to fix a similar problem. When I called Precor directly with model information/serial number they told me there was a known issue. They repleaced the belt, flipped the deck, and checked several other parts to confirm they were the right revision level. All at no cost to me. The dealer would have also known this, but wanted to double dip me and get me to pay and send it in as warranty. So start with Precor corporate support. Maybe they can help you.

Mine was a Precore 9.31i
I’ll try my luck with that. I bought it used but from the number of hours and distance covered I know that the previous owner only walked on it and used it less than a year. If I remember correctly it’s still under warranty until 2013 but it’s not directly with Precor and the intermediary is really hard to contact. I’ll make the effort and try to get some actual support.
