Hello!
I would assume that this is a common question; I searched the threads but couldn’t find anything (I apologize for any redundancy in advance). I’ve signed up for my first tri. It’s a half iron on June 19. I’ll be using Fink’s 16 week Iron Fit program; that means that I’ll have about 3 months for base building. **I’m wondering how those 3 months might be used best. I can’t seem to find much the topic. ** For the past couple months, I’ve been working on swim technique, spinning, and running hard intervals. I’m just beginning to learn about base building and it seems that I have to slow things down a bit. Should I focus exclusively on my base or is there room for some Zone 3/4 activity?
This will be my first time training with a heart rate monitor. I’ve run a bit, cycled a lot, and I’m just starting to swim. I think I have a decent base already, but I really don’t have enough experience with a monitor to know. Having said that, I’m a lifetime fitness enthusiast but I’ve never really “trained” for competition. I’ve run a couple halves , but the training was haphazard at best (no real program). I’d like to train smart for this event. I like Fink’s program, I’m just not sure how I should be training during the months leading up to it.
Thanks !
