I know Powertap SL is an improvement in design, but I am still contemplating getting a Powertap Pro because I am not typically a poor weather cyclist and I could pick one up off of Ebay. I am wondering what everyone’s opinions are on here - is the Powertap Pro still a great product or should I forget about it? How much do you think it is worth used (last years model)?
unless you are super concerned with 150 grams (I believe that is the weight difference). I have had mixed luck with the Powertap Pro. Sometimes it just likes to reset on me while out on rides (it has something to do with the battery sitting in it’s cradle properly) But apart from that, it’s been awsome. It’s seen lots of use in the last 4 months (only time i haven’t had it was for a race) I find it durable, if you take care of your gear. I have sorted out the battery issue and haven’t had a problem with it in the last month or so. Hope this helps!
I like mine a lot. The only knock I have on it is the weight of the hub. No big deal really on flat ground and only makes the training harder on training rides. I don’t race that much in the hills. I think it will be a great value with the new SL being the “gotta have” version. I’m not that into Ebay for used stuff, but you might find a deal on a new one there. Price will totally depend on what wheel it is built to.
Make sure you get what you think you are getting on EBay. I glanced at my lists (one of my searches is for PowerTap) and several of the current auctions are for the original non waterproof Powertap hubs.
FYI, they are on sale a Performance right now.
It says out of stock and the price is not a sale price…unless I am looking at the wrong site http://www.performancebike.com/shop/profile.cfm?sku=18503#
.
Oops, it’s a member sale. $899 for a Powertap Pro with Mavic Open Pro rim. They are out of stock too, but it says you can order it.
Don’t forget that with Performance, they raise the prices of everything so that your 10% off becomes less than 10% off. You have to do a bit of comparison shopping to realize that 899 is the retail price.
