PowerTap P1 question (1)

I am getting a message saying “right pedal not found”/missing -I have changed batteries and tried again, but the same thing happens. Fenix 6x and Edge 310.

Is there an app I can use to fix this? Any advice appreciated.

Short answer - No.

Slightly longer answer - it’s been a known issue for multiple years and I’ve seen it on the 520, 530, and Fenix 6x. They (whoever they is - powertap, garmin, etc) worked on the issue and it’s happening for people less and less over time.

All that said, you’re still getting the appropriate power reading from the pedals, it’s just a glitch. There’s been several threads on here over the past 5 years.

Is it a permanent thing or just an intermittent message you get when the pedals are connecting to your Garmin? If intermittent message, then ditto above-- ignore it. If persistent error, then you could have a bad pedal bearing.

I’d recommend installing the Powertap mobile app on your phone, connect to the pedals via the app, and check for firmware updates.

Thank you for the input -I cannot find in the iOS app store -what is is called exactly?

I am located in South Africa -does that make a difference re the app?

Search Saris. They bought powertap a few years ago

They’re now owned by SRAM. Look for the app SRAM AXS. Latest firmware is v32.

That’s interesting. I generally follow M&A with endurance brands/sporting products more closely than I should (wasting time) due to working in M&A prior to leaving public accounting. I have no idea how I missed that, but you’re correct.

I had similar issues with my P1 pedals and decided to risk $20 and replace the end caps with the current Version 3 (I did this late 2020). Problem fixed and they’ve been working perfectly since.

There is no guarantee this will work but the new end caps have a tighter tolerance than was used on earlier versions. There are a lot of internet discussions that the old end caps are the reason behind many problems.

Ditto to the above about the end caps. And to add to that, only use Lithium batteries. Alkaline batteries also cause problems. So, to summarize:
Update your firmwareUpgrade to the end battery caps if you still have the originalsUse Lithium batteries

I’ve seen this; as a test, I unclipped from the left pedal and then kept riding, so the only power was coming from the right pedal. Since I continued to see power displayed on my head unit, I didn’t worry about the message.

Many thanks

clever

Thank you. I am having this same issue and just ordered the caps, batteries, and I decided to buy the cleats on the site just in case.
