Hello,
Is there a heart rate monitor strap out there that works with the PowerTap, like Garmin or anything? Of course besides the obvious PowerTap strap. I have some old polar’s and a few garmin’s kicking around.

The garmin strap definitely works.
Thx Bud!

I think you need to be more specific about what PT you’re using.
Thanks, Chris
The new powertap elite+, it does not come with a strap so was hoping a garmin would work so one strap for all training using the PT and Garmin 305.

PT Elite+ is ANT+ compatible so you’re good to go.
Thanks, Chris
thx Chris…i went cheap well cuz that is what i had. hope i will not miss a lot of the functions of the on board analysis…i am assuming i can do that post ride using WKO.

My opinion: As far as functionality is concerned, there’s really nothing more useful you’re going to get in the more expensive model than the one you purchased. Probably the biggest difference is weight which isn’t a big deal. If you think about it, who really needs to have things like ‘time in zones’ displayed on your computer? If/when you need to do analysis then I’d save it for WKO+ or Raceday. Training and racing with a PM is mostly about real-time power.
Thanks, Chris
The garmin strap definitely works.
Anything special needed? The strap from my Garmin 305 never is picked up by my 2009 PT.
You have to go to Computer Setup 5 and have the CPU learn the new heart rate strap. If you are using more than one heart rate strap it is a pain in the ass which is why I use my Garmin strap for my Powertap and Forerunner 305.
Thx Chris, that is totally what i was thinking as well…no time to over analyze in the middle of a long ride. Do that after, lol.

slick trick!
I have the same problem, but my cpu is older (2.2) and doesn’t have the “5” option, should the Garmin still work, polar? I have both, but no luck and I’m hoping its not the cpu because I’m broke after my IM training this year! Thanks.

You’re out of luck. The 2.2 is uncoded. You can find and use an old school uncoded polar, but garmin is out.
Thanks. Then its the cpu, because I have an old school polar and it doesn’t work. There’s a cpu on ebay for $60, better than $200!
