Does anyone have reviews of the Powertap G3 46mm carbon wheelset? Saw the ad on the main ST page. Thanks

No but I’ve now Google’d “Pacific Rim” (the rim manufacturer, so they say) 10 different ways and I can’t seem to come up with any result on who is making these rims. Their shape and finish reminds me of Reynolds…which sends me running away.

Here is a link to what looks like the same wheel. Description says Reynolds rims. They also have Reynolds Assault G3 wheel. The Powertap labeled set and the Reynolds have the exact same specs. I bought a set last Fall at a good price for my road bike. Took off the stickers. No problems and seem like a solid set of wheels at a realtively decent weight. They could have changed up the rim but looks spot on.

Yes, this caught my eye since I just laid out some serious scratch for 303s with G3. But not much more than this set and mine is a custom build.

Where did you pick up 303’s with G3 for little more than this set? That’s a great deal.

I’d like to know too. Priced on wheelbuilder and it’s about $1k more.

Pshhh…if you want a great deal check out the classifieds. Some guy is selling brand new ENVE 65 mm Carbon Clinchers with a G3 rear for $2k shipped

Along with the people saying they look like Reynolds, that’s what they used to use for Powertap carbon wheels. I’d guess they just got clearance to use their own branding.

A great deal only if you want 65s.

These are nice wheels. I picked up a pair for my wife for about $400 less, when they were closing out last year’s models. Basically, the same wheel just different graphics. My only gripe is that the front hub isn’t the best. I don’t think it’s the same one on regular Reynolds Assaults.

“Pacific rims” is a term that Reynolds came up with for their rims that have a scrim braking surface rather than their new CTg braking surface.

The Pacific rims are sold to many wheel manufacturers, including me.

I have a set, and may actually be the ones in the photo, as I’ve done some work for them. I am relatively certain that they are the Reynolds ones, and are really, really nice! I got rid of all of my metal rims, as carbon is so durable now days, and so much lighter and stable, making training much more satisfying. These wheel fly uphill, and seem pretty good in our extremely strong spring crosswinds we’ve had this year. I would not hesitate a minute, as Powertap’s great products, in addition to their bulletproof warranty and amazing customer service (do a forum search) make this a real no-brainer.

Just curious, why would Reynolds send you running away? (I know nothing about them) I’m looking for a wheelset with PT that wont break the bank and these seemed like a good option.
