Ok, I am running a MacBook Pro and I am looking into get a power meter for the first time. I know the PowerTap software is Mac compatible (plus I get a good PT deal), so I’ll probably go that route.
But, does WKO+ work on a Mac? Also, would Parallels or something allow me to run WKO+? I really would like some powerful analyzing software that runs in OSX though.
Recommendations? Also, does anyone know if the PT Wireless will work with the Edge 705 that’s coming out?
Thanks guys, and happy post 1,000 to me!
Yes, PowerTap’s Power Agent will run on your mac.
WKO+ will run through parallels. The only issue is finding a serial adapter that will work, but I think they (CyclingPeaks) now have a recommendation for one that works.
Another option is PowerCoach. I don’t have any experience with it, but it does run on a mac and appears to have a lot of features. Pricey though. http://www.powercoachacademy.com/36060/software_e.html

Wow, that software is expensive.
Will the PT software do fine? It’s free and native to OSX. This will be my first PM, so I’m certainly no Dr. Coggan…though I am working my way through his book right now.
Power Agent is very limited in it’s analytical capabilities, IMHO. I used it for about a month before I converted to WKO+. The differences are night and day.

I’m running WKO+ on Vista in Parallels on my Mac, and it works great.
WKO+ runs fine in parallels.
For a Mac native solution, you can check out the Golden Cheetah project. It’s not quite WKO+, but it is getting there…

The Mac version of PowerAgent is a step in the right direction, but is something of a kludge compared to WKO+.
I’ve never had any problem with the USB PT cradle on an Intel Mac with any software. Seems that I did have to look around for drivers, but it wasn’t a big deal.
Word on the street is that the new VMWare virtualization software bogs down the computer less than Parallels. That said, I’m using Parallels to run XP and it’s 1000000000000X better than virtual PC on PowerPC machine. Note that you’re looking at a pretty sizable investment in software if you do this on the up and up.
Last time I looked at Golden Cheetah, it’s major drawback was the incompatible file format. If you want anybody else to look at your data (say, a coach or a friend to help you interpret the data), it’s best to have it in either the PT format or the WKO format.
Good luck.
