Powder Nutrition for Full Distance Ironman - mixing options

I’ll be using Tailwind Sunday and I’m still undecided on whether to premix the bottles and try to freeze all of them or just premix and chill first bike bottle and carry the powder (pre-measured) for special needs bike, T2, and special needs run.

My thought is I should be able to get “cold” water to mix the pre-measured powder with at all three of those stops, whereas, mixing ahead of time the bottles may warm up and not be so tasty.

Would like to hear others’ opinions. Speed is important but I’m willing to sacrifice a minute to mix at each stop.

I’ve used Perpetuim for multiple long course races. It’s also powder based…

Perpetuim (sp?) can ferment and get nasty in the heat, but I’ve done fine with mixing it with cold water in the morning and stashing it in special needs. I started the race with a 500cal bottle on the frame and 1 more at special needs. Rest of calories would come from gel/bars and some on-course snacks of fruit.

The more I race, the simpler I try to make things… mixing powders in the race is a complication best handled before the gun goes off. Freezing can lead to burst seals or their complications. The best bet is get used to the on-course nutrition ( by buying some ahead of time) and just using what people are handing you!

I started doing this recently - start out with a premixed concentrated bottle of Infinit and 3-4 gels. It lasts me 3 hours. Once I am out, live off Gatorade, Cola and Maurten gels on course. If I am feeling like shit, go for some solids (fig bars, bananas, etc). Makes things dramatically less complicated.
