Powder coat P3

I just got my P3 back from Spectrum powder works in Colorado. The new powder coat job looks beautiful. Including one way shipping, I got a sable black powder coat plus a Cervelo logo plus a clear coat for $260. It looks like a new bike. Very cool.

by the way, my model year 2000 51 cm P3 frame weighs just under 3.5 pounds according to my letter scale which I think is very accurate.

If the carbon P3 weighs a half pound less than a P3SL, that would put it around 2.75 pounds

Is powder coating heavier than normal paint?

No. In fact, I think it took about an ounce off the total weight.

Powder coating is regular paint, for the most part. The method of application varies. You can, for instance, get polyester coating in both wet and powder form. After its applied and cured it would take a very experieced expert to tell the difference.

Could you post a picture??? So we can the art work, I actually own Cervelo P3 2001 - Yellow that I would like to get a new paint Job.

Thanks,

Well, I suppose. I just have to figure out that picture posting thing. I will try to do this tonight.

They had Cervelo logos in stock. They had limited colors though. Mine is white with a silver trim.

How could you possibly make this post without a picture? Stinker!

Sorry Monk. I will give this a try. The picture actually turned out much better than I thought.

I still can’t tell if this picture will actually post. Here goes.

Apparently I can’t post with Mozilla. Let me try this way with IE.

Nice pic but where are the flames or naked boobs?

Well, I seriously considered flames, but I am so freaking fat and slow that it would just be too big of a joke. Having an old, fat guy on a P3 is joke enough.

I also couldn’t figure out how to spec something like that.

The picture does show how smooth the surface is. Maybe I will actually be able to keep it clean now.

Art,

Your P3 looks awesome. I like the color a lot. We must think alike as the color and decals are the exact same thing I got for my '03 soloist. I’m really satisfied with the job that Spectrum did for me. I had it built up about 3 weeks ago and finally got the chance to ride it last week. I’m heading to the Mountains of North Carolina this in the morning with friends for a long weekend of riding. I’m taking the Soloist. I’ll see if I can take a few pics and post them next week.

Ps. Are you heading back to IMLP this year?

Joel, God willing I will be back at Lake Placid with this P3. That will be the fifth IM Lake Placid on this bike. I am absolutely certain that one year I will actually do it right.

Until now, I think I have been held back by the poor paint job on my P3. It is either that, or I am old and out of shape, so I know it must be the paint.

Well the best of luck to you. That’s one tough course. I think I’m heading to IM Florida in '05… but I’ll be back to IMLP in a couple of years.

See Ya’

Joel
