I test a lot of triathlon watches (with the exception of Suunto 🤷â€â™‚ï¸) If you want a basic work horse, try the 255. ($350ish) I think it’s excellent for the price point. The 955 is also a great option. ($500ish) I’ve been wearing it a lot lately and I’m enjoying the Training Status each morning.
If you want something at a better price point, the Coros Pace 2 does the basics at about $200. I’m happy to help if you have specific questions about anything. ðŸ‘
Do you want a watch you wear 24/7 or just during workouts?
Is size or weight a factor?
Are looks important?
What about easy to read (big clear screen vs. smaller screen)?
How important is battery life?
Since the watch is workout-only and looks are not a high priority, the only real differentiator is easy to read. (Most modern multisport watches have plenty of battery and weigh about the same, but mostly boring colors.)
Easy to read - Garmin 955 non-Solar (biggest screen)
Bike mount - non-differentiator (all would need a universal mount; Garmin has a branded universal mount)
Garmin is the only one to offer a 1.3" screen, and it is nice. All the other brands (except Garmin’s smaller 255S) have 1.2" screens.
Edit: I forgot to ask if mapping is important. That narrows the field a little bit as well.
After the 310 I got the 920 and very happy with since.
Just works, got some gimmicks over the 320 (BT for example) but you don’t need to use it.
Try get one second hand for example.
This. For the price you won’t find a better option. The 735XT is a fantastic watch and the screen is great. But the battery life is on the razors edge for 13 hours.

Solar and non solar are same size screen. The solar does add a layer over the screen that makes it slightly darker and so less contrast. The ring solar is just a ‘black ring’ of the same size on (my) non solar 955.
I don’t believe there is a bike mount for the 955 yet - they changed the pin thickness so the old 935 bike mounts won’t work (securely).
That used one sounds good. Waterproof? Doent make coffee. /I hope/I hope so… it has swim profiles.
I went from a 305XT to a 910XT. I had the 910XT for years and it was a great watch until the speaker quit working and the altimeter died. But that took a really long time.
