Portland tri clubs

Any recommendations for tri clubs in the Portland Oregon area. I’m looking mostly for open water swimming groups and maybe a few group rides. I’ve checked out the Gecko tri club and Ironheads web sites.

If you want to improve, train with a great group, and have outstanding support; it’s a no-brainer. Ironheads is THE BEST team in the Northwest (3 years running as the USAT Regional Team Champions).

The challenge will be getting onto the Team as it has already filled its roster for 2010. With that said, you can still join the group for rides, runs, and swims throughout the week.

As a start, I’d recommend the following:

Saturday morning 0900 hrs. ride from The Athlete’s Lounge in NW Portland.
Sunday morning 0800 hrs. run from Portland Running Company in NE Portland.
Tuesday evening 1800 hrs. run from Club Sport in Tualatin
Wednesday evening run from Duniway Park

Mid-week open-water swims/rides will begin in April.

Good luck,

Hey,

Chris here from Athletes Lounge…

Ironheads are a great club, but I do think they are filled for 2010.

Gecko's are a great group, and are definitely active with open water swims. They put on a big open water swim at Hagg Lake in May.

I would also look into the Portland Tri Club (pdxtriclub.org)

There is the club, as well as their race team. They meet regularly and I believe have quite a few group workouts.

Jeremy Hyatt runs a group out of All Star Fitness on Barbur, and I believe there are triathlon training groups based out of all of the Oregon Athletic Clubs. Bryant Howard is starting a group out of the east side athletic club (east side endurance), if you're on that side of town. In addition, there are quite a few other coaches in the area that have group team sessions I can direct you to as well.

Hope that helps. If you want need any more info, or some coach/club contacts, send me a pm.
