Pope Leo XIV

Umm, it is still rampant.

And, in case you had any doubt, 100% chance this guy was part of the pedophile problem. Both in Chicago and in Peru.

This and his stance on LGBTQ are my concerns.

I’m hoping he is more tolerant and accepting like Pope Francis. I do like that he has criticized Vance and Trump on their unjust treatment of immigrants and disregard for climate change. Maybe he will be a good influence on America. Time will tell.

When there is bad news every day coming from the Trump regime, this is not bad news (to me). I’m going to be hopeful he will be a good pope. Because I don’t see much hope within the US right now.

I don’t think American Catholics are the problem in our politics today, generally. I’m not sure why MAGA is melting over it. It doesn’t change the landscape much.

FYI, there are a considerable no. of american catholics that despised the previous pope and his slightly more enlightened positions. And these catholics are 100% full MAGA. I know this because l know some of them personally. There are enough of them in northern WI that there are even a few radio stations that cater to these nutters, with all of the radio propaganda broadcasts focusing on this particular flavor of hateful and backward theocracy.

The school is on the ā€œMain Lineā€ which was the first train line built outside the city limits. It takes about 30 minutes with 6 stops to be in Center City by rail. It takes about 15 minutes by car without traffic. My daughter is there and they consider themselves a Philly school.

My half sister has made her travels through various cultish ideologies over the years, going full tilt at every stop. She eventually left the JW cult and returned to the RCC but as a MAGA Latin Mass Trad Wifer.

I’m aware of their existence but how does another liberal Pope it peel away political support from MAGA?

Yeah, the catholics l know are the Latin mass trad wife types. And pope francis and gays are evil, etc.

But l do not understand your last question. Can you rephrase it?

MAGA doesn’t want anyone criticizing their ā€œdear leaderā€. It really pisses them off.

All the catholics I know I’m either related to, are Californian Vietnamese, or are Massholes. not a maga in the bunch :person_shrugging:

Catholics as a whole are split about 50/50 liberal/conservative. Very different than evangelicals or black protestants or atheists.

You can be a white Sox’s fan and still believe in a loving and just god?

Minor typo, and maybe I’m begging the question and peeling away potential or existing MAGA supporting Catholics isn’t behind their consternation over this pick?

Maybe it’s just the culture war generally and a new progressive leader on the scene that’s got some of them sideways. My question is, does it really change the political landscape in the US in any meaningful way? Does the absence of a new conservative Pope hurt the MAGA movement in any significant way?

I don’t see it. Status quo. I think they’re just butthurt that their feelings aren’t being validated at the highest level.

I wonder how much the circles of MAGA and Catholics overlap? Not as much as Southern Baptists or Pentecostals, I’m guessing.

5 rounds vs 4 rounds ?

None of the Nova campus is in Philly… most of it is in Radnor (Delaware County, or Delco), while some is in Lower Merion (Montgomery County, or Montco).

More on this topic:

I’m not Catholic but have a lot of respect for the Pope (at least the modern versions). I was surprised an American was elected, was hoping for a Filipino. The impact on a predominantly Catholic country of 100+ million would have been something good for the church.

Sorry, meant half of St Joe’s campus.

I’m torn on the respect piece. Yes, they serve an immense and important cultural role, and I know Catholicism and religion offer a lot of good to a lot of people, but, as an organization I just really can’t shake their involvement in what is probably one of the largest and longest running organized child abuse rings ever.

I don’t know how the church moves forward from that.
