Pools for lap swimming in San Diego

Because of my employment I will be in San Diego 50% of mytime. My company has agreed to pay any gym fees that I may need while I am there. What is a good pool close to La Jolla that I can get membership to? I am a slow swimmer (1:50 - 2:00) and like to do my own workouts early in the AM (5:30am) and around 7:00PM.

Also, from La Jolla what are some good biking routes with limited traffic? I am thinking of buying a bike to have in SD but not if I have to deal with nightmarish traffic. If I ride I usually do it around 6 or 7PM.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Welcome to our gorgeous city! The YMCA in Mission Valley has a very popular masters program at 5:30am, loads of triathletes there (myself included). There is a nice family pool in La Jolla here - http://www.cogganaquatics.org/

Well bike routes are up to you, but you’re only a few miles to torrey pines which is a very popular ‘hill repeats’ training hill we all use.

The 24 hr Fitness in UTC has a lap pool.

North County is one of the most beautiful places I’ve been to. Why not stop by DeSoto sport, borrow a wetsuit, and do a swim w/Emilio in the ocean (not sure if he’s still doing that, maybe I’m way off but he used to do it)?

Thanks for the sugestions. The 24-hour is literally accross the street from where I stay when I’m there so I will check this out first next week. I have definitely thought about bringing the wetsuit for an ocean swim out there. Sounds awesome. Definitely not the worst work arrangement I have had.

The 24 hr in UTC is only 3 lane indoor pool but it is open 24 hours.

Also in the area just a couple blocks north is the JCC

And over at UCSD is masters at Canyonview

As long as you’re in UTC and the company is paying just join the PAC they have 2 pools with lanes. http://www.pacsandiego.com/ 10 minutes for most people to drive and early and late you won’t have traffic. Lots of tri folks.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Appreciate the info. As for biking Torrey Pines. I know exactly the hill you’re talking about. I have run there quite a bit. Bike hill repeats there would be brutal, which I would love.

Wow, really no one has said the UCSD pool or the JCC pool, both have masters programs and are probably the nicest pools you’ll find in San Diego.

JCC used to have a long course masters group that had some not so fast fish… great pool and I think you can pay per visit just for the pool.

sounds like your close to La Jolla Cove…don’t pass that up while your there…Swim
.

And there is the very nice public pool at LJ High School, which has open swimming and a great masters turnout. For times and schedule, check out;
