Pool owners and swim gurus

Just had a quick thought as I dipped in my neighbors pool after working in the yard. It’s only about 30 feet long, but I peeled off a few strokes and had a eureka moment.

I have seem some drill work done at the pool where people tie tubing on their feet and swim, but not sure if this would be a recipe for disaster. Overuse type injury or whatnot like paddles and buoys…but is it feasible to swim in a pool with something around your feet for maybe a 20 minute swim when I can’t break free for Masters swim?

Anyone know of such a device that maybe fits on the waist? ankles? Would be awesome b/c my swim availability is next to nil as of late.

Thanks all…

Do you mean like this:

They work pretty well. Not quite the same sensation as real swimming but better than nothing. They come in a different lengths and stiffness so check that you’re not buying a 25 yard cord.

Have one and use it when needed. Not a huge fan (it’s like being on a treadmill) but it’s better than not swimming. Some of my athletes also use them to good success.

Sweet! Thanks just ordered one from SwimOutlet.com for $18:)

Do you see this potentially predisposing me to bad habits? Don’t know the how of if, but I have fallen into some bad habits using paddles and buoys over the years…crutches per se…don’t know if this would let bad juju creep into my stroke. I’m basically using it to fill in the gaps with a little something to keep my feel of the water when I can’t get to group swims…not as primary.

If you use it as a tool to supplement good training in a pool you’ll be fine. Any tool can be a crutch if used improperly. Don’t try to make stationary swimming “easy.” If it is easy, most likely you’re dropping your elbows. Feel the pull of the waist belt with each pull of your hands for best results, and focus on the weak part of your stroke. A big mirror on the bottom of the pool is a good tool to help you check yourself. Many times this isn’t possible, but if it is it’s worth the cost.

Yes! Actually I have an old full length mirror from my remodeling of the bathroom and I can put it down. That would rock thanks for the idea.

Feel free to shoot any more tips…thx!
