Pool in Boston?

I’ll be in Boston all of next week. Staying in North End. Where should I swim? Outdoor preferable but will go inside if I have to. Thanks.

I don’t know if Boston Sports Club does drop-ins for non-members, but the location next to South Station has a pool. It’s a little short at about 22 yards but is still a decent option.

MIT’s pool is awesome and has a drop-in rate for non-members if you can get over to Cambridge.

If you are looking outdoors, check out L St Bathhouse/Curley Rec Center in Southie. Fenced-area off the beach is at least 50 yds so you could do laps back there.

Thanks to you both. MIT looks like the best option.

If you’ll be in the North End - why not just swim there? Mirabella Pool - outdoor, 44 yards, gorgeous location overlooking the harbor. $15 for locals for the whole summer - but you can drop in on a day pass. Lap swimming (no lane markers…) 7.00-9.00am weekdays and 7.00-10.00am weekends. After that all of humanity comes in (sunbathers, kids, beach balls etc). Not sure if there are lockers - I tend not to spend too long in the changing area since it’s a bit grotty (unlike the pool). Just leave your gear on the benches at the pool side. Obviously pool shuts if there is a chance of a thunder storm.

I’m gonna be out in Boston next weekend through Tuesday…what about the area to the east of the Bathhouse, Pleasure Bay. I know I have run around that in the last, but it was winter…have no idea if they allow swimming in there.

Definitely looking for options while I am there…will be staying close to the convention center.

I used to work there and we did allow drop in guests, forget what the fee options were, but there was always different length options. Could always try to talk to a sales person and see if they will hook you up with a week guest pass

I’ve seen people on the beach and wading in Pleasure Bay (I lived in Southie 20 years ago and used to regularly run the Sugar Bowl loop around the bay and Castle Island), can’t say how it is for swimming but it couldn’t hurt to check it out.

Not 100% sure about Pleasure Bay but I raced at Carson Beach this morning which is immediately adjacent. The conditions were great - no surf, water temp in the low 70’s, water seemed fine. Boston Harbor used to be pretty grimy but it’s actually pretty clean these days. I believe Carson is fully guarded as well.
