Ponte Vedra / Jacksonville, FL bike rentals

I’m going to Ponte Vedra next week, without my bike, but I really would like to get some riding in while down there. Anyone know of a shop in the area that rents decent road bikes?

I’ve seen a lot of nice tri bikes riding Ponte Vedra Beach Boulevard on previous visits and I want to join them … thanks!

Call Drew Kallio at Bikefitters (http://www.bikefitters.com/); I would bet he can work something out for you. His shop is right on the south end of Ponte Vedra at Mickler’s. There are two other shops up in Jax Beach (American and Cycle Spectrum, I think) but I don’t know if either does rentals.

I wish you’d posted this thread a month ago! I was just down there for a friend’s wedding and was amazed by the number of tri bikes; it seemed like 2/3 of the bikes that went by were high end tri bikes, zipp wheels, etc.

I know! In previous visits I’ve just been running, and I love running along PV Blvd on Sat and Sun mornings and oogling all the nice bikes.

I’ll contact Drew, thanks for the pointer.

You should try the Saturday and Sunday rides that start at the Lodge, 7:30 or 8:00am, depending on the group. They frequently go down to Vilano Beach and back. There is a wide shoulder on AIA for the entire ride, which helps you stay out of the way of the cars.

…or call Bicycles Etc 904-733-9030 (ask for Sean, Mike, or Eric), they’re in town (off of philips hwy, about a 25-30min drive from the beach) and they have some higher end Scott adn Trek roadbikes for rent. They’re open 7days a week too and last I heard they’re pretty flexible on the rates if you want it for a longer timeframe.

Saturday ride from the Lodge (corner of PVB / Corona) leaves at around 8:00 am - good ride with a bunch of tri guys/gals usually and some fast roadies as well. Tues / Thur @ 1830 “County Line Ride” - leaves from corner of PVB and Duval Street (right b4 St Johns county line) heads out and hammers for 25 miles along similar route.

Thanks for all the info, very helpful. Do any of the rides you mentioned have routes posted online anywhere? I don’t think I’ll be able to join either of the group rides but would like to know the preferred riding routes in the area. Thanks again.
