POLL: Recovery time after races & workouts

Just curious: When you are in good shape, how long does it take folks to recover after races and/or tough workouts?
I mean “A” races, where you go all out, super long runs/rides, hellish track sessions, etc. …
“Recover” as defined by you could return to doing just about any type of training as well as you would want to …

I’m thinking:

Sprint?
Oly?
HIM?
IM?

Also maybe …
Marathon
very long bike (5+ hours)
very long run (2.5+)
3-hour group ride hammer fest
Hellish track workout
… Whatever else you want to add.

Have a great Thanksgiving week!

I’ve done back to back sprints with no real problems. I’ve also done and olympic after a spint.

Maybe its just from playing back to back hockey games for the last 8 years. But sprints and olympics don’t do that much to me in forms of wearing me out. for following days.

Grant

I can train hard the day after OLY distance races. HIM races take me a week to recover from. I have never had a problem the day after long bike rides. I normally do my long runs the day after long bike rides.

HIM - 10 days. The first week after, I couldn’t get my heart rate up at all in the pool, it was very strange. Didn’t have any problems running, though.

Marathon - two weeks

I’m typically ready to go 48 hours after my key workouts, as well as any other race.

If it’s an A race that I taper for and am pulling out all the stops, I think I could return to normal training after 2 weeks or so - since I haven’t done two A races in a Tri season yet I give myself 6 weeks or so.

Next spring, I’ll get 2-3 after AZ before I start training for IMWI.

very long bike (5+ hours) - next day to 48 hours
very long run (2.5+) - next day to 48 hours
3-hour group ride hammer fest - next day
Hellish track workout - don’t do, I don’t need speed

Sprint - None (Good nights sleep)
Oly - Go easy the next day
HIM- Easy effort - normal volume for a week
IM - No workouts for a week- Reverse taper back up to normal volume over the next month.

Also maybe …
Marathon - no workouts for a week- back to normal volume in 2 weeks or so
very long bike (5+ hours) - None (good night sleep)
very long run (2.5+) - None (good nights sleep)
3-hour group ride hammer fest -none (good nights sleep)

Those times seem about right for me too, except for the IM

After the DATT it took me a week untill I was strong enough to train hard again.
