The body was located around 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the river along Kelly Drive in the area of the Columbia Railroad Bridge.
Police said the 40-year-old man from Prospect Park in Delaware County entered the Schuylkill River shortly before 8:30 a.m. Saturday and never came out of the water. Lifeguards in kayaks said they had not seen anyone in any apparent trouble in the water.

Perhaps one of these “triathlon can be dangerous” cases you hear about where a person has a heart attack in the water because of the temperature difference and the shock on the body?
Maybe. I heard it was his very first triathlon, so that inexperience could (but might not) have played a role; he had no known health issues. Someone else said they got leg cramps during the swim due to the heat. An autopsy is being performed, that might be revealing. It’s very sad.
As for triathlon being dangerous, I sorta think that lack of exercise is probably a lot more dangerous in the long run for most people.
probably a Heart attack, kick to the head, panic attack then drowning. Lots of things can go wrong. I think it is really hard to pin point cause once fluids enter the lungs and rest of organs. Bruising in the head area can help determing if he was hit and I guess if he was wearing a HR monitor that can tell something also
