According to some websites that aren’t pro-OWS, the Chancellor informed the protestors that they would be arrested if they tried to camp out.
The police gave them several hours to comply before “attacking” the protestors and removing their tents. Seems pretty fair.
Chainpin: Say that three or four months ago, before the protests began, you and a small group of your friends “occupied” something. Your local park, or a courtyard to a public building, or maybe even the public building itself. You and your friends are just loitering there, illegally, trespassing, and then the police first ask, and then tell you to disband. You, being peaceful protestors, refuse. The police, being police, inform you that if you don’t disband, you will be arrested. You, being peaceful protestors, don’t care. They can’t arrest us because we’re peaceful! Then, when you resist a legal arrest, you get mad that the police use force? HA! You literally spat in their face and dared them to.
That’s what pisses me off about the OWS protestors - they don’t think any laws don’t apply to them. Since they’re so far above the law, why don’t they just not pay off their loans? Seriously.
Did you see anyone getting arrested in that video, because I didn’t.
If you are an officer and tasked with arresting one of those students, you pull them out of the crowd and arrest them.
That is not what happened–they simply started beating them.
They weren’t throwing shit, they weren’t smashing windows, or lighting shit on fire, it was by all account a peaceful assembly.
Officers should only force like that when they are physically threatened–did you see officers being threatened?
