Police Beat Defenseless Students at Berkeley

Go ahead apologists, try and defend this garbage.

Everyone of these officers should be charged with assault.

Pathetic, these pieces of shit beating girls for no good reason.

But I’m sure this is just an isolated incident huh?

These people make me fucking sick.

Cowards.

I’m surprised at you chainpin. I would have thought simply being at Berkley would be reason enough for you to think they need a beating.

Hey, that could be your son, or your daughter…or…LOL!!

Well, even I have a soft spot in my heart for misguided socialist youth that get beat with batons by fat piece of shit police offciers in full military gear.

Could a student win in a civil suit using that video of evidence of assualt?

I mean you can’t just beat the piss out of people that are simply standing there–arrest them and use force if they resist, but to stand and just start beating them–WTF!!!

The militarization of the police in this country is out of control.

According to some websites that aren’t pro-OWS, the Chancellor informed the protestors that they would be arrested if they tried to camp out.

The police gave them several hours to comply before “attacking” the protestors and removing their tents. Seems pretty fair.

Chainpin: Say that three or four months ago, before the protests began, you and a small group of your friends “occupied” something. Your local park, or a courtyard to a public building, or maybe even the public building itself. You and your friends are just loitering there, illegally, trespassing, and then the police first ask, and then tell you to disband. You, being peaceful protestors, refuse. The police, being police, inform you that if you don’t disband, you will be arrested. You, being peaceful protestors, don’t care. They can’t arrest us because we’re peaceful! Then, when you resist a legal arrest, you get mad that the police use force? HA! You literally spat in their face and dared them to.

That’s what pisses me off about the OWS protestors - they don’t think any laws don’t apply to them. Since they’re so far above the law, why don’t they just not pay off their loans? Seriously.

Exactly Matt. But I bet his take on gassing students at Penn State is a little gas never hurt anyone.

Then, when you resist a legal arrest, you get mad that the police use force?

How did they resist arrest? I only saw this video, so there might be more information.

Sorry Chainpin, but when I see a cop in front of me wearing riot gear and swinging baton. When I rush him, I expect to be tased, pepper sprayed or a good old fashion baton beating!
That’s just how it is!

Could a student win in a civil suit using that video of evidence of assualt? “Yeah, I was only resisting arrest, trespassing, assembling illegally, and the cop tried to arrest me and then hit me!”

  1. If you’d ever seen military police in action, you’d know that this was not nearly as bad as it could have been. If they were all equipped with M16s and AR15s, then it would have been an MP action.
  2. It’s very easy to take a clip out of context. The police WERE arresting people, and then the crowd started trying to intervene, which is why they got the shit kicked out of them. Of course, there were 6-7 cameras there, but no one happened to film WHY the police started using batons. That’d be bad press for the Occupy kiddos!

Did you see anyone getting arrested in that video, because I didn’t.

If you are an officer and tasked with arresting one of those students, you pull them out of the crowd and arrest them.

That is not what happened–they simply started beating them.

They weren’t throwing shit, they weren’t smashing windows, or lighting shit on fire, it was by all account a peaceful assembly.

Officers should only force like that when they are physically threatened–did you see officers being threatened?

Then, when you resist a legal arrest, you get mad that the police use force?

A smaller group pitched at least eight tents next to Sproul Plaza before police broke through a line of protesters encircling the camp site and tore down the tents. They handcuffed protesters who resisted as others shouted, “Put down your guns!”

The university reported on its web site that seven people, six students and one faculty member, had been arrested on charges of resisting and delaying a peace office in the performance of their duties and/or failure to disperse. One of the seven also was charged with striking an officer.

Chancellor Robert Birgeneau had warned students in an email Monday that camping would not be tolerated.

The police gave them several hours to comply before “attacking” the protestors and removing their tents. Seems pretty fair.

I’m not sure why you felt it necessary to place quotation marks around the word attacking. That’s exactly what it was.

Disgusting.

Remember this shit? They let this shit go on for a year+. Over some fucking trees. Not anything that, you know, matters. it was like…10 trees.

For christ sake don’t give me this bullshit.

Watch the fucking video, nothing is taken out of fucking context–please!

They beat the kids down–just admit what everyone else sees with their own two eyes.

Sorry, but this should never be accepted by the police–it isn’t even a grey area.

Pieces of worthless shit each and every one of them that struck girls with fucking batons.

Go ahead apologists, try and defend this garbage.

Ok I actually watched this. Can’t defend it or even really comment on it. No idea what’s even going on as no idea why they were there, whether they should have been or not.

If this is my front yard and I wanted these people out…well then it’s completely justified.

If this is one of the kids yard and this was a party…then it’s just assault.

I suspect this is probably a campus, they weren’t supposed to be there and had been asked politely many times to move on.

I would think that other methods should have been used but again no idea what the circumstances where or what was going on behind the cops.

In short if you’re in the wrong, expect a beating. If you’re in the right, stand your ground and expect a beating

I think the Chinese told people to leave Tiananmen Square a few years back.

I’m torn, I don’t know which of the sides I dislike most in this video.

** **If this is my front yard and I wanted these people out…well then it’s completely justified.

Pulling these girls one by one from the crowd, handcuffing them, and hauling them away would be completely justified.

Beating the fuck out of an unarmed, non-aggressive woman by an armed and armored officer is not justifiable by any stretch of the imagination.

why? A bunch of 19-22 year old kids? Are you so set in your politics that you dislike people who disagree with you even if they’re that young?

Always told my boys growing up if you get detained by the police, don’t make any quick movements, and do not be aggressive towards them. You will lose.
