I finally have a new computer that’s running Vista. Does anyone know where I might find Vista-compatible software for my 625X. I’ve looked all over the Polar website and can’t find anything. I’ve also sent an e-mail to them, but haven’t received a response yet.
AmyCO,
Won’t Vista read Windows XP software?
Bernie
Nope, it won’t run the setup. I’ve found this to be true for most software. It’s not that big of a deal because providers usually have solutions on their websites. I just haven’t found Polar’s yet.
Funny how people want Vista so badly and then complain that no old stuff (hardware, software) is working.
Did you buy your bike without knowing the specs?
I’m not complaining, Mr. Grumpy. The whole sordid story about my old computer is in the LR if you’re interested. I knew what I was getting into when I bought this Vista machine. I’m just needing some Polar software. My guess is that it’s not ready yet, but I thought I’d check here to see if anyone had better information than I’ve been able to find. I have a work-around if the software’s not ready.
FWIW, I bought my bike through Tom D. at Bikesport. I almost never do anything without researching it half to death.
I e-mailed Polar with the same problem. They said they had run precision performance on Vista machines. This will sound weird, but I couldn’t get it to load multiple times, then I shut down, rebooted, tried again, and it installed fine. I’m running precision performance on a vista machine right now-works great except that I can’t get it to recognize my infrared (serial port plugged in via a serial to USB adapter-guessing I’ll have to buy a USB).

Thanks, I’ll give that a try. It’s weird how stuff like that works.
Did you try the Program Compatibility Wizard?
I actually downloaded that for Office 2007, but hadn’t had a chance to use it yet (I probably don’t even need it because I can convert docs one at a time anyway). I was thinking that it was only for Office; is there a more generic version?
By the way, I’ve been at this virtually all day – installing new programs, porting and converting data, reaquiring licenses to play music, etc. I’m not having all that much fun anymore, but I can’t seem to stop:)
Well, I did get it to install, but a little differently than intended. Instead of running the set up from the Welcome screen that comes up when I loaded the CD, I accessed the setup.exe file directly from the Explore menu and ran it as administrator (right clicked on the .exe file to run it that way). It installed perfectly. Thanks all for the help and the compatability wizard is something I’m sure I’ll be using in the future.
Edit: I have Polar’s USB IR communication device and had a little trouble installing the necessary driver. Windows was not able to find it and a search of the installation CD similarly yielded no results. However, the drivers were installed as part of the PPP installation and so a manual search and designation of the driver (w2000) finally yielded success.
