Polar RS800sd

Is this new Polar good ? Does the speed / distance work ??

I heard that S625X is not so good…

tks

I have a friend that has the 625, he really likes it. We have tested it running and it has been dead on with a Garmin each time. I dont know if he got lucky or what. He calibrated it on a treadmill he told me.

I have had no issues with my s625x. Accurately records my runs and rides.

Don’t know what you have heard

I use the RS200SD and it is right on as well. If it weren’t for the price, I’d jump all over that 800 as it also displays cadence too which I also use on a lot of run workouts.

same here…have the 625 and love it. Very accurate…was within 2% out of the box and I calibrated it on a treadmill…now its within 1%.

software it comes with is pretty good as well…

the new polar RS800 is a lot nicer looking watch though.

hey there, do you have a link to this product. I looked on the polarusa site and don’t see it up yet…

.

The 625 was good, the RS800 is awesome. Accurate to 1cm per mile in some tests. Stride length and cadence. Better interface, a great product.

I love the 625x, but Polar’s intro of the 800 is well-timed to match the small-sensor-size of the Nike/iPod system. though I’ve never noticed the bulk of the 625 footpod, it looks like I’m running with a garage door opener on my instep.

Accuracy - especially after calibrating on a track - is superb. The strength of the 625x system will always be the ability to switch between running and cycling sensors - something the 800 can’t do.

I have used my 625x with foot pod and speed sensor for the bike for almost two years and the only thing I have had to do is replace a battery. It’s proven and it works. I have checked accuracy against the Timex GPS system and on my local track and it’s spot on.

agreed…the foot pod is somewhat ungainly. I got some questions from my neighbors the first few times I came back from a run with it. “What is that THING on your foot?”

is the foot sensor on the RS smaller?

Polar will be adding a GPS unit to the RS800 in early 2007, according to a Dutch Polar discussion forum: http://www.dourun.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=19932

I don’t know about U.S. availability yet; nothing on the Yahoo Polar email list yet.

800 looks nice BUT $469 is a lot money for a HRM with alot of other features. I am hopping to see them this weekend at the Philly Marathon. They say on Polars Website they are going to be there.

I have had dismal luck with the rs200sd which I bought last week. The pace display often reads 0.00 min/mi while I’m running and the milage has been off by over 20% on 4 different runs. I have a request in to Polar support though.

For the price of the 800 you can buy both a Garmin 305 and the rs200.

I will be at Philly working the Polar booth. I have put in many miles with the new unit and can answer all of your questions. See you there. I am not sure what the price is at the Expo?

625x rocks!!!

besides the foot pod size, is there any other change that makes the new pod more accurate than the old one?. I couldn’t find any technical comparison in terms of accuracy, and all the reviews only refer to the size.

I personally own a s625x and run with a forerunner 201. I tried different calibrations for different speeds and I find the s625x satisfactory enough only for single pace runs. If you’re interested in VO2 intervals (1000 to 1600 m) I found the GPS more useful (i only use the average pace per lap function), for shorter intervals you better go to the track since neither the polar or the garmin will give you accuracy enough.

I’m wondering how accurate the polar would be running on uneven terrains such as trails where your stride changes continuously.
