Polar GPS at Placid

Though I wish it was Polar GPS telemetry as in the Tour de France(cool black box) but it will be the other Polar GPS. I will have one of the few Polar G3 GPS sensors in Placid for show, NOT FOR SALE. The G3 will only work with the existing Polar RS800. First run with it was pretty cool. Look for the mini expo in front of High Peaks Cyclery.

Can I demo it near/around the expo?

Do you have any idea when this will be available to the public?

Mid to late Sept?

Will the g3 GPS pod work in conjunction with the s3 foot pod or can you only use one at a time?

I know where you are going with this but… One at a time, either/or. You have to tell the RS800 to Teach New Sensor when you switch from S3 to G3

Unless you want to join me for a run or ride in the morning to DEMO, this unit can not leave my side. We can organize a demo together SOLO!

Prior to Palacid, I hope to really test the unit to answer numerous questions
.

Great. It’ll be great to demo it. The downside is that I’ll have to wait 2 months to buy it!

Any idea if it provides true positional data, like the Garmins, or only speed and distance, like the original Timex BodyLink system.

Not familar with Timex. Come out and talk to me in Placid

Would love to, but I’m in Aberdeen, Scotland…

The Timex unit just used the GPS data to get the speed and distance values - there was no data about where you’d actual traveled stored in the unit. The Suunto GPS unit for the T3, T4 & T6 is the same, I believe.

I will be similar, no mapping like Timex but great software for non Mac users :). I often mention Ismarttrain

Just wondering if any IMLPers checked out the GPS unit and could clue me in on it’s bells n’ whistles. Thanks!

sounds cool, but the press release I saw indicated a retail price of $499. Unless I’m missing something, other than the Polar software, it has the same functionality as the Garmin 305 and is double the price.

My understanding is it had a footpod also for indoor and deep forest running.

Personally I did not like the change to 900mhz(might have been 700) which meant the heartrate would not work in the water.

I was looking for a replacement to my S625 and this is not it. Adventure race, maybe, but it is not tri friendly.
