Polar 710 question

does anyone know if there is a way to get the 710 to display trip distance while riding? Currently I can only get trip distance to show when I close out the ride and then go back and cycle through the event summary.

You can select the trip distance by scrolling across the top using the top right button while riding. You will have to zero the trip distance before you start each ride by selecting the trip distance (in measure mode) and holding the top left button until it starts flashing and eventually zero’s.

I never understood why you have to manually reset the trip distance every ride, otherwise great HRM.

Another question. Do you have the latest PPP software 4.0.22 (April 15 edition)? Can you transfer changes to wheel size to the HRM? I cannot. I sent an email to Polar support and haven’t heard back.

thanks Mike,

that will take care of it, but then it takes away the cummulative distance, which really isn’t needed since I have a log for that anyways.

Efer,

not sure I quite understand your question. My PPP software is version 3.03.011. I do have mine set up for two different wheel sizes and haven’t had a problem with it.

You should upgrade to the newest version. You can get it at www.polar.fi. It is pretty slick.

When you upgraded to the new version, did you lose any of your previously stored training information? Did you encounter any other problems by upgrading?

I’d really like to get the new version, but the version I have now is flaky enough that I’m not sure I trust the uprade process.

Thanks!

Mike,

You should still be able to get total distance from the records section on the watch.

Hope this helps.

I haven’t had any problems with upgrading the software aside from the wheel size thing mentioned earlier. There have been 2 or 3 updates that I have applied and no problems. I am assuming you have version 3.x.x. I think there are some conversions you have to do from older versions.

I’ve upgraded several times including this newest release and never lost anything.

I have a question about the software. Is it possible to clip off or edit out part of an exercise? I occasionaly have left the monitor running after a workout and of course it continues to record. Then it shows a 3 hour workout instead of the actual 2 that I did, etc.

I’m at work now, and don’t have access to my laptop that runs the Polar software. But, I believe that the data files are stored in a text file, or can easily be converted into one. If this is true, it would be possible to open this file and clip out the region that you no longer wish to include.

Dominic is right. I looked for a way to do it through the software and didn’t see any way. It does allow you to ‘correct’ readings, and to add distances to splits (nice for runs). You can edit the .hrm files though and just delete the readings at the end.

Thanks for the idea - I just gave it a go.

Files are *.hrm. You can export to a *.txt file but only the HR data. No way to import a *.txt file back into a *.hrm file anyway.

You can either open it with notepad by right clicking on the file and selecting “open with” and choose notepad. Or if you save it as a txt file rename it, changing the .txt to .hrm. You might want to back the original file up first by making a copy, that way you can get back to the original.

Thanks - that worked. I just assumed the “hrm” file was some oddball database type file - so didn’t even try to open it as a “txt”.
