POC Octal VIPS helmet

I have a couple question about this helmet, I would like to buy it for my next helmet

I wonder anyone in forum have a chance to try it
How is it fit you? Where is it manufacturing?
I knew that “POC” is Sweden company, just not sure it made in Sweden
How is it effect the performance?

Thanks

By “effect on performance” do you mean the aerodynamics of the helmet? And are you asking about how the Octal compares to other helmets or how the MIPS version compares to the non-MIPS version?

If you aren’t aware, MIPS is just an optional safety feature where there is a thin movable liner in the helmet that allows the helmet to “slip” or slide around your head at impact and supposedly reduces certain brain injuries caused by rotational forces.

MIPS definitely isn’t a performance feature but I doubt it has much, if any effect on aerodynamics, and it may or may not reduce the ventilation of the helmet due to the additional liner. The standard Octal is a very well ventilated helmet though.

In terms of general performance, Octal claims the design with fewer larger vents is more aero than many smaller vents and there is probably truth to that, but I don’t think the Octal is known for being a particularly aero helmet when compared to the other aero road offerings.

I’ve got the Raceday version of the Octal and it’s made in China…so I highly doubt the MIPS version is made in Sweden.

Thanks you guy for the review and recommend!
Yes I mean the MIPS version! It’s higher than AVIP about 50 bucks
I think I gonna go with the AVIP version
I really wish it made in Sweden as well

I have the Octal MIPS. The MIPS inner shell is really comfortable and feels form fitting, it’s by far my favorite helmet. I just wish they used black straps, instead of white, like they do for the non MIPS helmets.

The MIPS shell has as similar cut out as the main shell, it doesn’t seem to inhibit ventilation.

It’s made in China.

Got the Octal MIPS yesterday for a $240 from Western Bike Works.com
Will be able to report back after this wknd. I got the bright and I mean bright orange version. Even my almost 2 year old was screaming ORANGE with delight when he saw it. I am either going to love it or hate it but have not decided yet.
I saw a lot of Octal’s at the Lake Tahoe 100 MTB race last wknd and thought they looked pretty cool.

Other than MIPS, I think the Octal is just a better, saver helmet than anything else out there. It uses a exoskeletal system, has more protection in the back and of course its orange. It’s as light as my Aeon and very well ventilated.
For the same price as the regular Octal the MIPS was a no brainer.

I have the Octal in the Hi-Viz Orange and LOVE IT!
