To the best of my knowledge BodyGlove does not make wetsuits that are specific to triathlon or open water swimming. Their specialty is surfing, wakeboarding and other water sports.
Triathlon wetsuits are designed specifically for swimming in open water. They offer you warmth, better body position in the water and speed.
Do you own a wetsuit or are you thinking of getting a new one? What sort of racing will you be doing - short or long? Will you be doing a lot of training in open water? Are you a strong swimmer to begin with? These are all things you need to consider and will impact what sort of triathlon wetsuit you should consider getting.
yea i am just reading up on wetsuits and realise that you guys are right! i am getting one for open water training in Toronto and the coming Toronto Island Triathlon in August. I am not sure if I should get one yet, just browsing at the moment. the cost for gears in tri does add up quickly, doesn’t it? = (
It does add up, but the main thing is to get good quality gear that will last! Definitely look at the DeSoto Wetsuits, buy far the only different wetsuit on the market(2-pieces) and the best value for all the different ways you can wear it. Good Luck!!
A long sleeve wetsuit will be warmer and faster. The only time that you would want to consider a short sleeve suit would be an IM length swim when the water temperature is right near the cut-off point(78F). If you are in Canada, by and large all of your swims are going to be in cooler to cold water. Getting too warm in the swim is unlikley. I would reccomend a long sleeve full suit. Where do you live? Are you in the Toronto area? If so I would suggest that you go to Endurosport( Leaside or in the Beach), they have a great selection of various brands of wetsuits, and of course the best selection of Nineteen suits. Trying several suits on with the help of a knowlegdable sales person, is the best way to shop.
