Please help choose a protein powder

I am looking for a good tasting protein powder to drink as a recovery drink after workouts.

Any advice whould be appreciated.

Any cheap chocolate one mixed with milk makes my day. We also use it in smoothies.

MyoFusion (chocolate) by Gaspari Nutrition is a very good protein and also tastes very good. It has 25 grams of protein but only 4 grams of carbs so you will need an additional source for carbs. I usually knock back an Endurox R4 (fruit punch) for the carbs (52 gram and it also has 13 grams of protein) immediately after I finish working out. Shortly afterwards I drink a MyoFusion shake. I prefer heavy on the protein.

i have tried many different brands but beverly international is by far the best i have used. to this day it is the only one my wife will use. they have many different proteins to choose from. muscle provider is good for right after, gets to the system a little quicker but the ultimate is by far my favorite. beverly can be a little harder to find locally but i usually just order mine off the internet. its really the only brand i will recommend to my clients.

You should try Optimum Nutrition 100% Gold Standard Whey. It tastes great, mixes well, and has 24 grams per serving. Right now it is on sale for $45 on GNC for 5.15 lbs. I’ve tried many but have found the best results (and best value) with O.N. products.

I would also check out Optimum Nutrition AmiN.O. Energy for a post workout and during workout shake. I usually have 3-4 scoops before I run or lift with an extra scoop of BCAA powder.

The Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey tastes great and is relatively inexpensive.

I hate to say it because it’s GNC branded, but the best tasting protein I’ve found so far is GNC Wheybolic Extreme 60 (which is made for them by Optimum Nutrition).

Both of these are the chocolate flavor and I mix them in 8-16 oz of milk.

i’m a fan of the Whole Foods generic (“365”) chocolate flavored whey protein powder. 10 bucks per pound, mixes pretty easy. my understanding is that whey is a better bet than soy for recovery.

Second the recommendation for Myofusion
The chocolate flavor taste great and mixes well with milk

.

Another vote for Myofusion. I’ve used it for 5+ years. Used ON before that and it’s very good as well.

First Endurance Ultragen.

Ok I know it is expensive but I think it is worth the cost. I really like the philosophy behind the brand. All testing and development is done in house, they do not make goods to a price-point and for such a small company (in comparison to their other competitors) they have earned quite a following amongst Pro’s in both cycling and triathlon.

I use the Fruit Punch flavour, the taste is pretty good, it is light (unlike those heavy chocolate protein powders I used to have). What I really like about it is that you dont need a shaky for it to absorb with the water. Literally you put a scoop (I take half serving, except after very long rides or runs and races) and all that is needed for it to fully dissolve is give it a quick 5s shake.

Optimum Nutrition platinum mixes very easy and goes down smooth. 30 grams of protien per one scoop which is all you need unless your trying to put on mass. This is the best I have found and I’ve been in bodybuilding/ fitness for over 25 years.

3rd on the Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey. You can get it from Amazon on the subscription program for about $38 per 5 lbs container. It also tastes great.

The Powerbar Protein Plus mix is VERY good. Tastes awesome. I’ve tried a ton over the years, this tops it.

Huge fan of Endurox R4, which has been proven to actually help recoveries. I swear by the stuff as far as recovery drinks. I’ll still drink some whey every now and then or just a plain ole’ chocolate milk shake. But Endurox R4 great stuff.

Sorry, but anyone who recommends Optimum based on taste (they are a good mix of value and taste etc) primarily has clearly NOT tried a lot of protein powders, I find they taste a bit tinny… I am currently digging the gaspari myofusion as well, the chocolate tastes great even with water and mixes smoothly in a shaker alone, I mix mine with malto powder or agave syrup if i want carbs, oh and the protein is not just whey, its a mix to theoretically disperse nutrient timing which makes sense but no clue if it actually matters… BSN stuff comes in 2nd for me.

i used to lift weights so when i switched to tri training i continued using the cheap whey protein from walmart until i joined a training group where the coaches recommended something like hammer’s recoverite instead. i’ve also heard another good thing to have post workout is chocolate milk

Another Optimum Nutrition suggestion, but use the 2:1:1 Recovery mix. Protein, carbs, BCAAS and amino acids in one mix.

I use Jay Robb whey protein, chocolate. I’ve tried the vanilla and orange but definitely prefer the chocolate. Mix with milk or water and it’s pretty good.

Syntha 6 Chocolate tastes like chocolate pudding. Mix it with plain water and throw it back, delicious. It ain’t cheap, tho.

Knowing whats in your protein should be pretty important. Check out these links http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/magazine-archive/2010/july/food/protein-drinks/whats-in-your-protein-drink/index.htm
