Please educate me on Cervelo (P2) Forks

I ride a 5 year old P2 (a blue one) with a 3T Funda Pro fork. The new P2s have “Cervélo FK26 UL” forks and there was another fork before the 3T which had technical problems, correct? Is there an aero or safety difference between all those forks? Any reason to change?

The newer Cervelo fork is a few seconds faster per 40k than the 3T Funda, around 3 to 5 seconds per 40k iirc.

So, it is a small improvement, a bit expensive but a simple swap with no downside either.

Hi adal,

The Wolf SL (made by TrueTemper) was recalled, but never specced on a P2.
Wolf TT forks were specced, but made by a different company, and never subject to recall.
Your Funda is a good fork, but the FK26 shape, virtually identical to the P4’s fork, is a touch faster aerodynamically.

Here’s some background on the development of the FK26:

“THE P4 FORK - A PRODIGIOUS FATHER”
http://cervelo.com/en/engineering/ask-the-engineers/the-p4-fork-a-prodigious-father.html

In essence, there’s no safety reason to change from your current fork (assuming it’s not damaged), but you could go a touch faster if you want to get an FK26 fork.

Cheers,

You wouldnt happen to know the difference between a Wolf CL and 3T would you?
Proving impossible to source a FK26 here in Australia. New Cervelo distributor isnt all that helpful at this stage, but to be fair to them, they havent been the distributor for that long so I guess they are still working through some past issues.

The 3T is better than the old Wolf fork. If those are you only two options, stick with the 3T.

I knew this, but I was looking for specifics (if possible)
For 3 - 5 seconds for a 40k TT, I wont bother chasing a FK26 too hard.

And to be honest, the only reason Im looking to upgrade the CL is that Im sick of having to pull my front end apart a couple of times per season to clean off the surface rust and lube the cr-mo steerer of the CL.

Well then the FK26 fork might be worth the upgrade. It has a carbon steerer after all.

So does the 3T
.

Well I’ve owned two P3’s one with the older 3T fork and the last one with the newer fork. Never had issues with rust on either. But you shouldn’t have that issue if you are using grease in that area. I still don’t understand what you are trying to decide on. If the bearing race is pitted from rust, then maybe you would want to consider replacing the fork.

My P3 is a 2008 model which came with the Wolf CL fork which has a chrome-moly (steel) steerer so it tends to get some surface rust on the steerer above the top bearing, under the top cap, 1 spacer, the stem, and the two spacers above the stem (kept them fork a bit longer for re-sale value).
If I dont constantly (well at least every few weeks during tri season) pull the stem and spacers off, clean and dry and then re-lube the area, I end up having the steerer start to get some surface rust and the spacers are then almost impossible to shift, plus in time, I need to clean the area with steel wool to get it nice and free from rust.

So firstly, its a pain in the arse to be doing, and secondly, over many, many years I feel it could be a safety issue as every time I hit it with steel wool I am removing some of the metal (OK, being rather stupid about this bit, but still)

Both the 3T and FK forks have carbon steerers so this maintainence issue will simply go away.

the 3T is a couple seconds faster than the wolf and the new cervelo fork is a couple seconds faster than the 3T

So, probably just look around for both a 3T and Cervelo fork that comes in the color scheme you want at a good price and go for whichever you manage to find.

Thanks jack
The 3T is pretty easy to find so I will probably just go for that.

I have an unused FK26 fork with full steerer that i am looking to sell.
Any ideas on a value for this or even better any direction as to where i could sell this.

should go quick on the classifieds here.
