Ok I am sitting at my desk and like every morning I grab my water bottle and water my couple of plants with what’s left from yesterday’s H2O. It’s 2.5 hours later and I decide I am done with coffee and going to get some water, I’m thinking about this while on hold and looking at my bottle when I realize the last thing I drank yesterday was gatorade! I watered my house plants with sports drink! Bottle is a green Lexan camelback bottle so it was not obvious to me it contained gatorade this morning. My question is, Is this gonna kill my plants?
“Electrolytes: They’re what plants crave.”
.
that movie has been haunting me ever since I watched it. I think about it every time I go to the grocery store.
And, yeah, it’s probably not great for plants. How much was there?
you should have used powerade

Yep. It’s one of those movies that’s moderately funny when you watch it, but then you think back to it constantly.
I agree that unless you have a pretty delicate plant, you probably didn’t do it much harm, if any.
It wasn’t much maybe a 3/4 of a cup split between two plants.
It might not be a bad idea to put it in the sink and water it really really well just to flush off some of the g’ade. But then, I kill plants with water all the time, so maybe you are on to something.

No no no! My wife works for QTG/gatorade, we need to send our kids to College.

I kind of found the movie to be bad at the time but like I said, it’s been haunting me for about 6-8 months. Every time I see a bunch of overweight people putting processed crap food into their cart at the grocery store, I think about it. My dad was telling me that he has an employee (who makes 2x what I make) who can’t write a full sentence… That thread about ‘why do people have so many kids’ in the LR made me think about it… I’m pretty much convinced that the movie is brilliant now.
For anyone in the dark, we’re talking about Idiocracy with Luke Wilson. It came out last year. They’re watering all their crops with Gatorade because they are brainwashed by advertising to think ‘Electrolytes: it’s what plants crave.’ Luke Wilson is looking for plain water to drink but the only thing he can find is Gatorade (in water fountains, etc.). When he repeatedly asks for water, people he’s an idiot for wanting the stuff that is in toilets.
You guys sound gay when you talk…
(it’s from the movie)
The plants will be fine. I have used regular Coke to help dying plants many times. Many plant experts use soda or granular sugar to help lawns and plants. Plants, like people, sometimes need simple sugars. Just don’t make a habit of it and gels are too thick for plant usage.
Thanks for the quote.
Am amazed how many people have seen that movie.
Just wish so much of it wasn’t so true except for the Monster Truck Trial

I’ve used stale leftover beer from drinking the night before on plants and the plants are thriving. So I don’t see why gatorade would be much different.
