Been away from doing triathlons for 6 years now, planning to take it up again next year. I have an aquaman Pulsar from 2001-ish. I know wetsuits are supposedly much improved, but I am not likely going to be a podium contender for my age group. My suit is looking its age but maybe still servicable–the rubber is old and getting cracks in places. since i am now older (40) would it make since for comfort and/or injury prevention (shoulders–i get impingment pretty easily) to go with a newer more flexible model?
thanks
jim
I’d go with a Blue Seventy Helix but get the Long John, aka Sleeveless model to help with your shoulder problem.
That wetsuit sounds pretty damn old, totally time for an upgrade!
thanks!
I know full is faster, so if the new stuff really is flexy I will hope that works–back in 2002 i had a sleeveless oneil and the pulsar and ended up using the pulsar

get a 2 piece Desoto. Fantastic suit. Since it’s a 2 piece, you will never get that shoulder discomfort/fatigue (unless you haven’t trained enough ). They are the best IMO.
Buy another Aquaman the new suits are fantastic if they fit. Most of the new suits are super flexible but all cater to different body types. Any of the mid to top end suits should meet your needs.
I have an Aquaman Gold Cell and it is the most flexible/comfortable suit I have ever worn. You don’t even notice you have anything on your shoulders when swimming. The only thing to note is that the neck is tight and fits higher than most. It has a reverse zipper so it joins at the neck, which seems like it would not be comfortable when you try it on, but once you start swimming it is perfect and you never get chafing because the zipper is locked in place at the neck.
My wife upgraded her entry level seven year old suit to a much higher end new one this year. The big noticeable difference between the two suits is better shoulder flexibility on the new suits. The really strange part is that her swim times are slower this year in the new suit. Go figure.
thanks all am researching wetsuits and may have line on a used desoto 2 piece–either way i will upgrade
thanks again

.
I’m still in my Orca Predator 2 from 2001/2002.
I love it, have tried the newer suits and didn’t really feel like they added anything except extra rubber for buoyancy around the chest.
