Places to travel to w/ biking and beach

It is my last year of college and have yet to do a spring break trip, so I figure it is time to splurge. I’d like a place that has good biking (road or mountain or both) and beaches; so I can go have some fun with my buddy while my girlfriend and his fiancée soak up some rays. I’ll probably be driving, from the WI area. No distance limits. Hotel or camping. Some sort of night life not required, but not discouraged. Any suggestions?

sorry, San Diego is full otherwise I would recommend it.

We make our own cheese in Ca. Besides, what MP said, No room here in SD, especially for “Cheese Heads”…But, I would suggest San Diego anyway! Or, you could head down to the “redneck riviera” (panama city beach)…They like guys with tight shorts down there!

Ft Lauderdale used to have a kicking spring break, then they ruined it.

That doesn’t mean you can’t have a great time. Plenty of open road for riding and the water is beautiful.

thanks but i’ll probably avoid places where i have a better chance of picking up a guy rather than a girl when i’m out biking. :stuck_out_tongue:

and i suppose i could clarify, i’m not looking for the typical shit show spring break. so panama, for example, is definitely out of the picture.

keep the ideas flowin!

Santa Barbara, CA. One of the best training cities in the country. Ocean, 50m harbor outdoor pool across the street from the most scenic track in the world. Beach and mountains within 10 minutes of eachother. Endless hiking, riding, surfing, swimming, no traffic, night life, …Miles of hills of cycling… oh why did I move from SB… why oh why

Hands down, no question…and where the Pro teams tend to go same time of year…Santa Barbra / Goleta California. Plus there is a public 50m (yes, 50m) pool on the beach.

I live in San Diego, and I agree with that assessment. Anywhere from Santa Barbara to Pismo Beach would be my recommendation. Then make sure you hit Big sur on the way.

And the reason you left is because you couldn’t afford to live there

You say camping is okay? Fort Desoto Park in St. Pete. Triathlete paradise. Fairly quiet roads, a few beaches to choose from. Kayak rentals if you want a break from SBR. Might even catch a race depending on the weekend… If you want an actual hotel, St. Pete Beach is within riding distance.

I’ll second the St. Pete area–and Ft. De Soto is gorgeous (all of the beaches there are, but that park is beautiful…). My parents are in Madeira Beach (one of the little beach towns up and down the way there), and spring break is a great time to go. Usually warm enough to lie in the sun all day, but not beastly hot.

Don’t know what your budget is like, but a lot of folks down there rent out their condos/houses…esp. for spring break. (In fact, that’s how my parents found their place…I stayed nearby one year over spring break, they liked the area) You can walk right out your door, lie on t he beach, hit up a bar or two, or ride your bike.

I’ve never camped at Ft. De Soto, but I have heard that it is really hard to get a spot…but I don’t know if that’s for tents/non-electric, too, or just for RVs. But it’s defiinitely worth the trip over there.

As an added bonus, there are lots of spring training venues within a two hour or so drive, so if you even marginally like baseball, that’s another fun outing.

ETA: I’ve driven a few times, back in college/grad school (from WI and from IA/IL)…it’s not too bad, esp. if you have someone to rotate with. I personally like to stop somewhere like Kentucky or so to sleep, but if you’ve got enough folks, you can drive straight through.
