Places to run in Cashiers, NC

I am familiar with the Highlands Road Runners, about 20 minutes away… I am also aware of the neighborhood behind Red Bird Golf Club.

I am really interested in places to run in Cashiers itself… trails or roads…

(the main roads and neighborhood roads are very narrow and/or steep, which I really don’t mind on the way up, but would just assume not endure the pounding of on the way down…)

Thanks!

I’m from Cullowhee so I don’t actually run in Cashiers much, but here are a couple ideas:

Panthertown Valley - beautiful and there are trails that are somewhat level. You might also be able to base something on this race course (but I don’t know if Chinquapin is private): http://www.cashierstrailmix.com/images/Registrations/CashiersTrailMix_RaceMap.png

Village Green (at the Crossroads) - lots of nice nature trails through the park and gardens, might be nice for short runs but probably not a lot of miles: http://www.villagegreencashiersnc.com/about.php

many thanks!!

Take a look at the Strava heat map. Super useful for unknown areas and finding popular bike or run routes. Garmin Connect has a similar utility.

Cullowhee…Wow! that brings back memories of my pre-tri days!
Cullowhee 1978…I was living the Long Haired Country Boy life.
I couldn’t have imagined anyone, much less me, swimming, biking or running for fun.
But then it was1978 which was the first year of Kona.
