Places to rent road bike and ride in Sacramento?

Hello all,

I am being sent to Sacramento for a few weeks for work. On the weekends I will have some spare time and want to get some miles in.

I am looking for places to rent a good road bike (no touring or beach cruisers!) and ride. I’d be willing to drive a ways and explore too. Maybe go to Lake Tahoe?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The American River Bike trail is awesome. It runs frm downtown Sac to lake Folsom. Nicely paved but can get crowded on weekends. Round trip from downtown is somewhere in the vacinity of 60mi. I put a lot of miles on that trail while training for IMAZ in 2010. It’s along the river so good scenery and some elevation change. As for rentals I know of 2 bike shops in downtown/old sac that rent them, just can’t recall their names.

I have had a number of folks head up towards my place to bike in the foothills.

If you are around for the Donner Tri like July 15th, is the best place I have ever raced. (Will find out next year if Tahoe is better)

The side rides Between Donner and I80 back towards Sac are just amazing! Pure beauty, few cars, altitude, …

Also check out sac wheelmen. Not only do they have group rides, but most of their courses are online so you can pick one to ride on your own.
