How many times can you recycle the same questions. For the most part, all the information in ST is just recycled. Yes we have some new items to discuss but really the amount of new topics is amazingly small compared to the recycled topics so after a while, the content of the site dwindles to basically nothing. It is the same thing that people complain about with the Tri magazines. Why would this site be any different. I visit ST a lot less than I ever have since out of 100 new topics really only about 5 are new.
True enough. But every once in a while there’s a thread that picques my interest (I love the Denizen’s of the Pool thread), and then I get sucked back into the lame ones that go on and on with nobody ever coming to agreement and that usually end with someone declaring they’re outta here forever. 
And then they come back.
I think for someone new to the sport, if they use the search function and ask questions (most will be recycled and that is fine for a newbie) then the site is amazing but for someone that has been on here for so long then the site for the most part does not offer much. Yes there are some very good threads that I like to read but for the most part they are few and far between.
As for people declaring they are gone forever, I see no problem with that as long as they stay gone. I am sure they lurk more than ever after they make such a grand statement.

Not trying to be elitist at all but it is just a fact for the most part. If you have been on the site for a long time, you have read most of the topics in every form. Water packaged a 1000 different ways is still water. For someone new to the site (newbie) this information is being read for the first time and it is very informative to say the least. Dan has done an amazing job at creating a site that for someone new to the site and the sport MOST of the information is new. For someone that has been on the site for a long time, as mentioned before most of the topics are recycled. This is not a bad thing and when a new topic comes up (from some of the old guard) I find it very informative some times.
I love how you have tried to turn my words into something that it was not and I love the pink highlights but really, BLUE would have been better for a guy with the screen name of Bman. Cheers.

and quite a few folks have done that here and in the lavendar room. i wonder makes people both make “the big announcement” (‘i am outta here’, or whatever), and then after ‘the big announcement’, come back ?

The way that I look at it is that no one cares if you arrive on ST and really no one cares if you go from ST well maybe Swinfan. I agree with you about the big announcements, very odd.
