get a race belt…I find them more comfortable and easier to put on for the run if a tri.
That was my first thought. I don’t think i’m going to get an opportunity to get one before Sunday (due to work and im already racing on Saturday)
Why not use a race belt? I use this zoot one and it is much nicer than putting holes in my shirt.

Plus, they are nicer than the ones with just a snap, as the holes in the race bib are sometimes a little small or don’t line up with the snaps.
If you choose to wear it during the bike, you can spin the belt around so the number is on your back during the bike so it’s not flapping around. If you put it on in T2, you can grab the belt and run out of the transition area and put it on mid-run.
Definitely going to have to invest it one. Question is now can I get a hold of one in the next few days
Looks like I might be able to get one from Rebel Sport which I should be able to get to between now and the race. Thanks everyone.
Most running stores have them around. But if you can’t get one before a race, you can always do the safety pin thing. But I would definitely get one for future races (road races, tris or anything that has a number).
my friend once used a shoelace

Thanks - it’s a public holiday tomorrow and the sports store is going to be open so im sorted. Cheers for the advice!
Back in the day ('80’s), pros used to use the elastic waistband from a pair of undies (just step into it and pull it up).
I went to the fabic store and bought 1/4" elastic and tied it off.
Safety pins are fine just so long as the race timing isn’t pull tab from the race bib. If that’s the case, an overzealous volunteer might take part of your shirt with it. There are all sorts of race belts most are one-size-fits-all. I always use one, 5K on up. Depending on your events you may want a belt with a pocket for (keys, id, etc.) and loops for gels. Mine only has loops. Good luck in your race.
It’s attaching a piece of paper to a shirt.
Just use small safety pins.
No need to make it more complicated than this.

But, but, this is slowtwitch…
He’s already got the bib! Plenty of time to SEW the bib to the shirt, leaving the top open to use as a pouch to carry his gels, salt pills and picture of his dog!
C’mon…

You’re right. I keep on forgetting that.

Alright, alright… I get ya. I was just reminded this is ST.

Went to 3 sports stores without any luck today.
I’m going to order one online and just have to use pins for this race.
Thanks for all the advice.
Found one at an AUS Sports Online store - I’ve ordered and paid for express post. If they send tomorrow i’ll get it on Friday. Fingers crossed!
When I wear a two piece, I pin my number to my tri shorts and tuck in the number while swimming. Never had any issues and you don’t have to worry about some idiot accidentally taking your race belt.
Just crumble(which I do if tucking in or wearing belt) up the number and make sure the pins aren’t stretched too far apart and they may pop apart when pulling shorts down.
I only wear a race belt if racing in one piece. Good chance you know people with extra belts. We probably six and always takes extras to races.
Hooray! the race belt I ordered has arrived - now I am going to ask a dumb question (so I can adjust the length) ~ Where on the body do yo wear it with the race number. Mid section / torso? I’m guessing waist is a bit low.
