Pimp my ride (Cervelo R3)

I have just recieved a nice new R3 frame as a replacement for my R2.5. I am mainly going rebuild using the parts from the R2.5 - but having such an Uber light frame it doesn’t seem right not to pimp it up a bit (over time as finances allow). I have a full DA group set to fit on it + Syntace F99 stem and some Less 199 bars, Zipp 404 (for special occasions) and some Mavics for general riding around.

What should I look to replace?

The seatclamp looks pretty industrial (anyone know how much it wieghs?). Any recommendations of a lightwieght alternative, if so what size would I need? I understand M2 racer made a nice clamp but they seem hard to get hold of in the UK.

I presume there is an engineering reason behind Cervelo decision to use an oversized seatpost? Taking this into account is there a reason not to go for a standard sized post with a shim? USE’s Alien and Easton EC90 are the posts I am looking at - I think the USE is a bit lighter and is cheaper here in the UK than the Easton, but I got to keep my Easton Forks from the R2.5 so I guess the Easton post would match in nicely.

I have also thought of changing my Fizik Arione saddle for either a white SLR or Specialized saddle.

Is there much weight savings to be had from replacing the DA cranks with the new FSA cranks - considering the DA cranks function very well. I have thought about Zero gravity brakes are there any similar brakes I could also consider?

.

if you go to the weightweenies forum there are a huge number of discussions about building up light R3s.
My personal opinion is that it’s not worth going for the FSA cranks over Shimano - lose weight but also shifting and reliability.
M5 brakes are very light but very industrial looking.

There’s another thread that’s been updated today that addresses the seatpost issue. Have a look at that one.

I have a SLX fork and USE Alien on my r2.5 and they look fine especially since I had them gloss laquered to match the frame. Have a look at a SLR carbonio saddle they are around 125g and very comfortable.
